How bad is Atlanta on a Saturday?

We are driving from Indiana and look to hit Atlanta around 4 in the afternoon on Saturday. Is the traffic still nuts on the weekends like during the week? Should we take the bypass or 75 straight through?

They can be!!!!! Keep in mind we have traffic reports on the weekends in Atlanta just like it was a normal business day.

Last Saturday morning for example we had ALL but ONE lane of I-75/i-85 SB closed for construction

I suggest you check this site before you leave and see what the DOT is up to....

I was in Atlanta yesterday afternoon (Saturday 4-5pm) trying to get through the downtown merge of I-75/I-85. It was a bumper-to-bumper crawl from 2-3 miles before the merge (we were on southbound I-85) until we were through the downtown and then traffic sped-up for no apparent reason. There were no accidents, just a lot of cars heading into the city at that hour. I'd have to recommend taking I-285 around the city.

Not sure what time you were there, but around 3 or so there was a MAJOR accident. So while you might not have seen it, that could be part of the explanation. (I was going NB on that strech about the same time) The accident was right in downtown....

Two weeks ago my mother spent two hours in Dalton, GA (North of ATL on 75 due to an accident) One never knows in GA!

Definitely worth a look if you can swing it before you hit town. AM 750 also has traffic reports (including on Saturdays) that you can tune when you start getting to the Atlanta broadcast area. Usually, weekend aren't too bad, at least relative to week days.
