How bad is All Star Sports?

This is what is left for the promotional code that ends 9/26 for a Disney value resort vacation package. I get the feeling that this section of this value resort hasn't been renovated as of late; am I right?

I don't want to pay the extra for a moderate, but I don't want to be sorry about this decision later, either. This is a last minute decision; so, I know I'm stuck with what is left if I want the promotion.

Any insights would be appreciated.

I don't think you're "stuck" with All Star Sports. We like the resort. And there's no guarantee that a moderate is going to be the most updated and renovated resort either. Disney can't be constantly updating the value resorts just because they are value resorts. Of course, a lot will depend on how you go into your vacation. If you are already leary that your room is not going to be perfect, any little imperfection might have you being unhappy. Relax and enjoy your vacation and your resort and don't worry about the renovation schedule.

Last minute trips are fun because you don't have a lot of time to obsess over every major decision. The All stars is a nice resort and the price is very nice with a promotion. :woohoo: Follow Disnut8's advice, go have a good time, don't go down there with a negative attitude about the resort before you even get there.

It amazes me how many people "dread" All Star Sports. We loved it in 2006! It's going through a needed renovation right now, but we saw little to complain about when we were there. Outside of smaller rooms, we found the entire resort fun, well thought out with kids in mind. We loved the selections and quality of the food court foods, experienced little or no wait for buses and found our room great, even if it was quite small. We're really not at the resort so much that the room size is even an issue.

We're trying Pop for a change, but would not hesitate at all to stay at Sports again!

Sports is not "bad" in any sense of the word.

I love the All-Star resorts - all three of them. I've stayed at Sports twice and enjoyed myself both times. The only thing to watch out for at Sports is major sporting competitions can bring in a lot of high-school atheletes and cheerleaders, which can be noisy. But I don't think there are any competitions in September, so you'll be fine.

In fact, September is a great big empty at WDW, so it should be nice and peaceful at all the resorts.

Give Sports a try, and go into it with an open mind, and you'll come away loving the place.

WE only stayed at AllStar Music before, but I was impressed. It's still a Disney resort. It's rooms are smaller than a mod, but these resorts are also more compact. I also like the queues better than the mob scene that can occur at the mods. The only reason it's even available is because they are renovating the pool right now, and because they upgraded some folks who were staying there (free dining promo) to make room for the new promo - at least that's what I heard here. The walk to the pool at All-Star Music is really short. Shorter than it appears when you arrive at the resort.

The only things I suggest is that A.) you remember to bring a hairdryer if you use one, B.) you get a refillable mug if you drink coffee (no coffee makers in the rooms, and C.) if you wish to use the pool, request towels from the lobby concierge when you are walking through there. The way they are set up, you basically go through the lobby every time you return from a park. So if your plan is to hit the pool, you can get as many towels as you want from the concerge. Otherwise, you are supposed to bring your room towels to the pool, they don't have towels at the pool like the mods do.

We just got back from Sports. I was worried before we went. But the room size didn't bother us & we had five, since the baby was in a pack-n-play. So we had: A stroller we never folded, a Pack-N-Play, and 5 people's stuff. Plus the girls put down blankets & played with Legos every night. We live in a huge house so we are used to lots of our own space, but we still didn't mind being the small rooms.

Dh & I slept together with no problems at all. We are just normal sized people. The mattresses were AWESOME! And they were replacing them in our section as we were there, even though they seemed completely new to me. I didn't notice anything that needed refurbished.

The main pool was closed which was irritating but had it been open I think it would have felt a lot like a cruise. I can see me really enjoying swimming there. As it was, we used Music's pools which were delightful.

If we have a choice, we would prefer Music over Sports or to try Pop. But if there is no choice, Sports was just fine & we liked it. I'd pick it over Movies as Movies gets picked up last & they rarely got seats on the bus. Music has it's own bus & Sports is first.

I took pictures of our room with all our junk in it so people couls see them as they really will look (not like a postcard, all clean.)

The rooms don't have coffeemakers, we shipped a cheap one to ourselves.
It is brightly colored and the dining hall is all one big room & therefore chaotic and every so slightly obnoxious. But all the CM's were great. We just got our food and ate in our room.

don't ever listen to the negative reviews- go and decide for yourself. My family has always enjoyed AS Sports and consider this our first disney home. Yes the rooms are small but who spends alot of time in them anyways. For the price you can't be beat. AS Sports has the first pick up and first drop off with the busses for the value resorts. Surf's Up Pool is awesome (I believe it will be finished soon or maybe already is). If you enjoy a quieter pool try the homerun pool. Their foodcourt may be hectic and busy at times but the food is very delicious. Customer service is awesome as well as we have never had a problem.

I just got back from a week there and had a great time. It is a very nice place to stay. I would go back in a minute.

We stayed at Sports the last week of August and it was fine. We were in the Hoops section. Don't know if that's recently been renovated (I know some sections have), but it was very clean, didn't seem worn. While we there the large pool was being closed for refurbishment. We've stayed there twice and always enjoyed our stay. I think alot depends on when you go as this resort seems to be the place to stay for sports teams, cheerleaders, etc. and that seems to be where alot of the problems are. We've never had any problems.

Go for it. You will have a great time. Don't let the resort make or break your visit! We have stayed there twice and have had a blast each time.

Esterhead - I LOVED those photos! I'm the "I need to take a photo of the room - can you move that bag, I don't people to think we're slobs or anything". To heck with that in the future. You really captured the true essence of a Disney World resort room.

Thanks. I took the neat & tidy photos too. But really, I could just down load that. They all look the same.

I will be staying their also for the first time this Dec. Glad to see good reviews

DISNEY'S ALL-STAR SPORTS RESORT IS AWFUL!It is just a TERRIBLE resort. It is SO terrible that I have only stayed there eight times with a ninth stay planned in December.;) :)

Thanks for the pictures.Surf's Up! was the section I stayed in on my first trip to WDW,so it is so good to see those pictures.I will miss the "old" room decor for nostalgic reasons, but the refurbished rooms are SO much nicer.:)

I just returned from AS MU. I visited every building in the All Star Complex. I think AS Sports was cute. In fact, the basketball section has to be the absolute CUTEST section in all of the value resorts. The only thing that detracted from AS SP was the closure of the main pool.

When I return to Disney and stay value I will definately pick the All star complex. I liked it better than POP. It had fantastic theming. If I could request any building in all of the all stars, it would be the basketball section. Seeing it in pictures does not do justice to being there.

yesterday from AsSp...we stayed in Surfs Up Building 1...which has not been renovated...the rooms really didn't look that worn to me...the bathrooms look a little more worn...but Mousekeeping was very attentive every day...close to the food court and the stops...and we did walk to the Home Run pool twice since the big pool was closed...once in the afternoon about 3 and once about 10...neither time was it overly busy....I was a little worried also but was very happy with the resort.
