I'm hearing lots of reports of people getting eaten by the mosquitos right now in Disney. So, does anyone know how much longer mosquito season will go in that area? Also, what types of bug spray has anyone used successfully against getting bit?

In all my trips to WDW (I think 11), I can't recall ever getting a mosquito bite. Rarely see any bugs at all. I think they do a great job on pest management, much of it 'environmentally correct'.

Like Dan we never had a bite in all the years of going to WDW, but this year was very different. We got eaten alive last week and this week. We were warned at check-in about it and they had a letter on our room table talking about sketters.

Thank goodness I brought bug repellent, it helped a little, but not much. I have one area of my upper arm with 13 bites in a little circle area. Be sure to pack repellent and anti-itch stuff, you'll need it if you're heading out soon!

As far as love bugs and other bugs, only saw a few wasps near the pool at AKL, one beetle, snuck in our room while we had the door opened up, so I picked him up and put him back outside, no it was NOT a roach, and one love bug the very first day. Saw a few flies and the little gnats, but WDW does an awesome job with bug control. Just prepare for the skeeters!

Are the mosquitos equally bad all over WDW or just near heavliy wooded areas (like WL and FW) and waterways (PO-R boat ride to DTD)?

I think they were heavier in wooded places or places near water, but we still noticed them around the MK, Epcot and such, just not as much.

They were terrible at the bus stop at AKL, not sure why, but that's where we think we got the most bites.

They seemed to come out just prior to dusk and then would be out for a few hours, then they would let up again. If there was a good breeze going we also didn't notice them as much.

Just pack a good repellent and you should be fine!

I also think if the temps start to drop off a bit that should help with the problem too.

We just got back last night. No bug spray- NO BITES. I was concerned, because there was a warning from the FL health dept. in our room when we arrived but had no problems.

Not sure about right now, but we've never had a problem with mosquitoes at WDW. I am very allergic to them and they love me so believe me I would know if they were around. I always take bug spray with me (Off Skintastic), but have never had to use it. Hope this helps.

This was our third trip to WDW and I had never been bitten before but this trip I had 40 bites, mostly on my legs.

The first bits appeared after sitting on our balcony at the Dolphin, I could actually feel them biting into my legs! The next lot appeared after our meal at the Rose and Crown at EPCOT, we sat outside near the Lake - we could see the mossies flying around the lights! My daughter said I looked like I had chickenpox on my legs! ;)

UGH!!!!! Hate reading this, LOL. Any ideas as to why they are there now and not in the past?

The skeeters are bad over lots of Florida areas right now. This has been a terribly rainy season and that's what the little guys need to breed. The more rain, the more mosquitos. They do come out at dusk and dawn, so those are the worst times for getting bit. Most warnings in FL say to use an insect spray with DEET. However, I believe DEET is not supposed to be used on children (not sure, just thought I heard that).
