How bad are the cheerleaders?

My family had booked our vacation in March and our staying at the Caribbean Beach resort. We stayed there in November last year and loved it. However I found out today that the cheerleaders will be there during the same time as us and now I'm worried that maybe we should switch resorts. On our last trip to CBR on the day we checked out a huge group of lacrosse players checked in and they were everywhere which didn't bother me as much because we were leaving. However this time the cheerleaders are going to be there for most of our trip. So now I'm wondering how bad are the cheerleaders really? Does anyone have any experiences with this? I've searched online for any experiences and so far everything that comes up makes them sound horrible. I've read that there will be a lot of them running around the resort, they practice very late at night and very early in the morning, and I've also read that transportation can be a problem with them staying at the same resort. So are they really that bad?

I wish I could be more reassuring, but our experience with cheerleaders at a resort was very much as you describe, only worse. And the resort CM s were unable or unwilling to do anything about it. Ever since, if we are going to stay at a mod, I check first to see if a cheer or dance group will be there at the same time. But I've also seen posts from others (mostly cheer moms/chaperones), who vowed that they aren't all that noisy and disruptive. Maybe discuss this with your family to see if they want to try to move to another resort or not. At least you're forwarned.

Not sure about CBR,but I know that when Cheerleaders are at All-Star Sports,Guests don't even know they are there.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I've been trying to find another resort to switch to but it seems there is not very much availability left with any kind of discount. POR in a royal room was my second choice but it seems POR is booked solid. And most of the deluxes are out of our budget except maybe AKL or Saratoga Springs. I really wish I knew about the cheerleaders when I booked.

I would totally recommend akl. The only way to combat the sports groups is to stay deluxe. It will be far more peaceful, plus the food there is awesome!

We mistakenly stayed at All-Star Sports in March several years ago. The football field was outside our room and it was HORRIBLE. Even though they didn't allow you to play football with your kids on the field, they let the cheerleaders practice from AM to night - and you know how screechy pre-teen and teenaged girls can be.... It absolutely ruined our stay and our adult children now say they would NEVER stay in the All-Star resorts.

We were at a value during cheerleading stuff and the only time we saw groups around the resort but nothing that interfered with our day. The only time we were concerned was one night at the resort when a group started practicing around 9:30. We thought maybe they would continue and continue and they were close to our room. But once it was 10:00, they congratulated each other and packed up and back to their rooms. We were primed and ready for confrontations and had absolutely none.

My sister were there during Pop Warner week last year and it was AWFUL. I mean, just plain awful. I will avoid it again in the future as we barely slept from all the noise. We were at CBR.

Its not foolproof, but you can check the ESPN/WWOS website calendar for events. If you click on an event for details, you can often see where the event participants are being housed.

As a cheer coach pretty much all the events have a special travel package, park hopper, entry to event and hotel - the hotels on the packages are always All Star Resorts, Pop Century and CBR. CBR is obviously more expensive than the other options so people generally tend to go for the others over CBR first off.

March 14-15 is UCA International Allstar Championships and March 21-22 is Americheer International Championships, that should be it for cheerleading for the month of March at ESPN. Cheerleading Worlds is in April 23-24 ICU and 25-27 Worlds Divisions and May 1-3 there is the Summit.

I'm not going to say it's horrible because I'm involved with cheerleading so my view is different but you have to expect noise/some disruption when any groups are there because it's busy and they're mostly young/excitable people travelling with their friends/teams. A lot of them get caught up in all that and don't necessarily think people there at the same time are just going for a family break - a lot of coaches have toughened up and imposed curfews/are making sure their teams are respectful though. I even know of one coach who taped the doors at AS Sports of his teams at night to discourage anyone from coming out of their rooms after curfew unless an emergency etc.

Like others have said though it's mainly effecting resorts, the park crowds don't seem to really be impacted. Avoid resorts mentioned above and you sort of wouldn't know anything was on.

Went during that period, didn't really notice the cheer leaders inside the parks, at the resort we occasionally heard them practicing but it was no big deal really we were up late so don't know if they did it then but when we went back to the room for a lunch time nap we could sometimes hear them practicing. We stayed at PORFQ.

We thought it was a really nice time to go - the weather was perfect and the park was busy but not crazy.

We stayed at CBR during a cheer event, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We noticed the groups mainly during breakfast in the food court, and we were able to avoid them on the buses (mostly). At the resort bus stops, we waited for another bus or chose another park based upon where the cheer teams were headed.

The only real negative was that one of the chaperones thought our room was included in his team's block of rooms. He would pound on the door each night for bed check!

The resort is so big that it can absorb large groups without them having much impact on the rest of the guests, so I think you'll be fine.

I will add that the cheerleaders behaved well and that we only avoided the groups because we wanted to be sure to have seats on the bus. We struck up conversations with the teams from our area and enjoyed the polite interactions. So, again, I think you'll be fine at CBR.

We had an experience with this back in Feb 2011. It was not good.

The cheerleaders were out late (like after midnight) in the outside common areas practicing their routines (i.e. yelling at the top of their lungs).

They would do the whole "have 2-3 people go to the bus stop and wait for a bus and then the rest of your 20 person group show up at the last minute and cut everyone in line to get on..." routine. Awesome.

We had several issues during our CBR stay but that was definitely one of the ones that sort of tainted our view of that resort...we are still trying to recover and come to a point where we say we'll stay there again, LOL.

Hmmm, the impact of several hundred almost unsupervised teenagers in your hotel (take a moment with that statement). O.K., now that you have, believe me, it is something you will want to avoid. Don't let them kid you, its pretty annoying.

Based on all of the posts folk have made through the years on staying at a hotel during one of these events, the best advice anyone can give is: "Unless you're involved in the event or are ok with potential interruptions, very crowded hotels, loud teens, and normal (and not-so-normal) teen hijinks, your best bet is to stay at another hotel."

We checked in on 10th Feb 2014 and went over to OPR for breakfast on 11th. The foodhall was packed, and a little later when we went to get the internal shuttle round to Custom House to get the shuttle to DCC, the bus stop was full of girls with what looked like overnight bags. They all got on at Martinique and got off again about 3 stops later (can't remember which one it was). There was a large marquee set up in what looked like the car park.

We didn't see any of them again after that.

I think we must have timed that one juuuuuust right!

I consider it a gamble. I'm going for a week in January. I love POR, but switched to Pop. I figure I'd rather save $450 and risk the teen groups at Pop - i.e., staying at POR (even in a preferred room) will not guarantee you quiet neighbors. There's a poster here who said she stayed at POR in a preferred room Jan. 2014 and was surrounded by a teen tour group - said it was awful, and POR did nothing after alot of complaining. I'm not going to gamble $450 - and the hassle of dealing with the issue on vacation (which I'd feel the need to if I spent that much more!) - for POR.

I won't pay the cost for Deluxe (the only way to guarantee you aren't among a teenager group (but still no guarantee of quiet neighbors!)); I will go at a different time or go offsite next year if Pop is bad with teen groups.

I've been at moderates and values with teenager: football players, band (musicians - high school), cheerleaders and Big Tour Groups.

I'll take any of them over the cheerleaders. They are just louder.

Assuming you weren't at WDW last July during the World Cup with the Brazil Tour Groups and the Argentina Tour Groups!lol
