How bad are crowds Dec.20-24?

I am thinking of possibly surprising my family with a trip and I was wondering how bad the crowds are at this time?

We could go anytime between Dec 19 and Jan 4. I figured the first few days would be better than later in the two weeks?

The parks are busy up until 12/25 but then...it's INSANE! If you get there at opening you can do some of the bigger attractions before the lines get really long. Staying onsite is the way to go...if you can swing it.

You are choosing the most crowded 2 weeks of the year. There are periods when it gets as busy (July 4th, Easter, Thanksgiving) but Christmas/New Years is the highest of high seasons.
