How are you saving for your DFTW?

DF and I agreed to give each other Disney Dollars as gifts for any birthday/anniversary/Christmas or any other gift giving holiday. It won't necessarily help for the wedding, but definitely for the Disneymoon.

Also we have been earning rewards through our Disney Visa and putting a big chunk of our income away in a seperate savings account every month.

Hm... I just use a budget and stick to it. I have an allowance, take it out in cash and use no more. I got into credit card debt when I was 18, but its slowly going down... I just enrolled in the cash to savings thing at Bank of America too. :)

My wonderful fiance is going along with my recent "hairbrained scheme".

There's a TV program here in Canada (a couple, actually) that takes women who have debt problems and give them a recovery plan, and help them set up a budget, and savings and so forth.

Now I'm not in major debt trouble, but I thought I'd apply anyway, because I'm terrible with a budget, and DFi has never had to deal with one.

Well, they liked the angle of a couple learning to budget together and save for a wedding, so they picked us! I'll be full of saving ideas and tips soon!

I watched a TV show like that the other day... I wish I could get someone to help us out. FI has tonsa credit card debt from his ex.. Urgh!!!!

Our savings plan consists of selling two of the three houses we own between the two of us (and one of them is not the current home we live in!) Ugh!! Going on year 1 now that they've both been for sale.

Does anyone know anyone in Michigan who wants to buy a three unit rental home and a really cute single family home in Kalamazoo??? My house comes with FREE college tuition. Yes, you read that correctly. If kids go to Kalamazoo Public Schools they get college paid for at any MI public university!

Seriously, we could have a custom wedding if we could get rid of 2 of our 3 mortgage payments!! Ha ha!

I was just reading back through this thread and saw your post. I live in the Flint area and definitely feel your pain. I have several family members that have been trying to sell their houses for over a year too. It's definitely not a good time for all of us in MI. At least we have excitement of our DFTWs :yay:

That's so funny that you all live in the Flint area--my DF plays this game, "World of Warcraft", and a bunch of his friends on there are actually from that area--I had never even heard of it until then. Anyways--I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned about saving--we have yet to set a date and already I'm worried about it, lol.

I am not even engaged yet and I am saving my money. It is something I've always wanted and my future DF is just (well almost) excited as I am, so we're pretty much committed to it. I know my parents will help with a nice gift, but it will be primarily our responsibility.

I already take a certain amt. out of each paycheck and it automatically goes into my ING.

Who needs to save? We're rich!!!!

Oh...wait...no we're not! We just thought we'd build up mounds of debt and spend the next 10 years paying it off! Yeah...that works! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: love it Diane!! :rotfl: let's see, between the mortgage, the car insurance, all the utilities and whatever emergencies come up in between besides birthdays, other people's weddings , etc - who can save???!!! if you'd have told me 1 year ago that our rather intimate wedding at home would cost almost $11,000 - I would have said NO WAY!!!! but it's working somehow. We have the Disney rewards card and should have a nice little sum for our Disneymoon. Same with the Amex cards... also put spare change in a jar and dollarbills in our wedding fund jar but that's not paying for the wedding - we've been paying the Inn and our wedding bands monthly so by the time the wedding comes, it will all be paid. still have the luncheon reception and the Disney cruise balance but I have no doubts - it will work out in the end.

always does ....oh yeah, and I keep buying those MEGA MILLION tickets!
