I had gastric bypass surgery in June 2003. My dr. said I was a slow loser during the liquids phase. He didn't expect me to reach what I have so far. Looking at the recommended diet they gave us - high protein, very low carb, I just jumped back on the Atkins bandwagon. I've always had luck with Atkins. People who suffer wtih certain hormonal imbalances like PCOS should be on a lowcarb diet.
I had lost 24 lbs. my first month. You're supposed to double that to get the 3 month loss, which would have been 48, but I did 56. Then you double the 3 month to see for a year, which for me would be 112. I'm at 9 months and passed that. I'm still slower than some WLS patients, but it's better than predicted. Again, I attribute my success to the low carb diet and to my new found love of exercise and walking. I am at Curves 3x a week, and I now use public transportation, which requires a long morning and afternoon walk.
I'd like to lose another 50 before considering reconstructive surgery - my hanging arms and tummy will need to be lifted, as will a couple of other areas.
But low-carb definitely seems to work best for me.
