How are you handling the high gas?

The gas prices just suck! It's going to interfere with our weekend activities. We are just going to cut back on our weekend outings driving far. We still drive to work. I can't see taking the bus yet.

Honestly it isn't reallly making me cry in my cheerios yet. I just keep putting it on the gold amex reward card, paying it off at the end of the month and getting double reward points. My husband just recently got a promotion to a job 10 minutes from home. He had been a road warrior with commutes of an hour to 2 hours so it is all working out in the wash for me. We do joke that the kids might only be looking at the waverunners this summer or get one lap each but I doubt that is true. I will just cut back on my Pottery Barn, Longaberger or Coach purchases. I am a bad girl anyway. I need shoppers anonymous.

I make less unneccesary trips and try to combine errands with places I need to go. Like Tiesdays, my DD has Theater group so I just try to wait until then to do whatever running around I need to do and then wait in the parking lot for her to be finished instead of going home and then returning.

I also am buying all of my groceries at a local store that is offering 'fuel perks' program, it's 10 cents off every gallon of gas (up to 30 gallons) per $50 spent in the store. So, if you buy $165.00 in groceries, your fuel perk balance is 30 cents off and you have $15 towards the next dime level. They keep accumulating until you redeem them.

I have to buy groceries anyways. Also, you can buy gift cards there too and get those amounts applied to your fuel perk balance, like for restaurants and retail stores, etc. So, I do buy those too if I am planning on shopping at those places. We wait until the fuel perks balance is at least over above $2 and then fill up. It's not much, but has saved us.

No public transportation up here in the mountains, that's for sure! LOL

Just combining errands - like most people - and picking and choosing what "extra" activities I feel are worth it to me..

The one thing I'm not doing is being held hostage by the oil companies.. I would rather buy less gas and find other ways to entertain myself than give them far more money than I feel is necessary.. I don't like being taken advantage of and no one can convince me that we aren't being taken advantage of..

Did anyone see the profit reports today for the first three months (I believe) of this year? That's PROFIT to the companies - not operating expenses.. It's shameful.. Add the ridiculous taxes we have to pay on fuel and it's enough to make a person physically ill..

I'm taking the United Limo Bus to the airport this Sunday instead of driving. It would cost me 42.00 plus tolls round trip to drive. Riding the bus is 57.00 and I don't have to drive or put the miles on. It's much easier too, because I was going to have to get on a train, haul luggage, switch trains, etc. Now I'll be dropped at the door and not worry about it. :)

I've been on maternity leave, but I return 5/27. Luckily, I've had to drive very limited times. I'm saving money by staying home, not using gas and not shopping. :P

On the way to my Dentist I have to go on a busy road and I passed a lot of gas stations this morning. One Exxon had regular for $3.25. It was empty. Understandable because down the road it was going for $3.05. That station was so jammed that the cars were lined up in the street. It reminded me of the gas lines of the 70's. What struck me funny though was the station across the street had it for $3.09 and that station was as empty as the first one! I know every penny helps but is it really worth waiting for 10 or 15 minutes (presumably with your car running, not to mention the aggrevation) to get a 4 cent break? On average it probably comes to a savings of about $1.00. :confused3

I agree and I am not confused at all. :thumbsup2

You lucky devil! I'm in a constant state of confusion. But it does come in handy when you need a quick excuse!
