They were talking about this subject on Howard Stern today
It said online that the tip should be 2 dollars per bed per night.
When we went to our "home" we didnt get service during our stay but we left the tip at the end of the stay
It was way more than that
But what do you guys think/do......

Housekeeping is a non-tipped position. We don't tip anything unless we need extra service.

We tip. My friends and I just left $30 for a 4 night stay in a 2 bedroom, we pooled money. If it made someone smile:goodvibeswe would be glad! It was a great stay at BWV!!!

Could you please help me find Disney's list of tipped and non-tipped positions? People keep referring to it but I can't seem to find it . :confused3

doesn't matter to me if it is a tipped position....I still tip. I tip less if I don't get a full cleaning. I usually tip a few dollars a day and leave it when I check out.

We do the same thing. Stayed in a studio recently and left $7.00.

I, too, always tip. I'm always in such a good mood when I'm at WDW, I have no problem tipping and I figure they probably need the money a lot more than I do. I tip on trash & towel day and upon checkout. I tip the valet $5 in and out, but we use the car a lot so it's been getting rather expensive. I'm thinking of dropping it down to $3 each time, but I have to say, the valet service at AKL was outstanding, the best we've ever had, and we know a lot of the staff at BWV so that may not really happen, but I am definitely going to bring a bunch of singles on the next trip. Maybe I'll use them on the VWL portion. I'll have to see how good they are.

There was a FAQ that included this info a few years ago but I couldn't find it last I looked. Actually it's pretty simple. Take the standard tipped positions such as Valet, Bell staff, restaurants and you've got a complete list. Nationally hotels are about 50/50, most timeshares do not have tipped housekeeping unless they state so. Of those that do, all I know of have daily maid service and indicate the tipping expectation much like a cruise does. While for hotels it's around 50/50, for timeshares it's more in the 95% non tipped, the rest in places like MX.

We tip too, not as much as if staying in a hotel but the women who clean the rooms work just as hard plus there is a kitchen to deal with. They would appreciate the money just as much as hotel staff.

I tip a couple bucks for trash & towel... $10-$15 for full service. Before you scold me... please read below.

I believe the only positions that are truly tip-based income are servers. As such their base income is a minuscule amount - I recall it being somewhere around $1.70 when my son worked as a server. Much less than minimum wage for sure.

However, if you look at the ridiculous amt of $ pulled in on tips by the servers at these buffet places (20% standard) you should scratch your head and ask why the person who comes into your room, changes the beds, vacuums, scrubs, washes dishes, makes towel animals on her own time (ok, they're not always left) etc is getting so much less for her hour of work than the guy who simply clears away your dishes, brings you a carafe of coffee and lets you know Mickey's on his way around. In my opinion - a properly cleaned room my family spends time in is far more 'magical' than a server clearing the table of the dishes.

We tip as well. I prepare an envelope for each time they do a full cleaning or trash and towel. However, it does depend on how well the room is cleaned. I do tip more for the full cleaning. Also, the amount also depends on whether we are staying at a one bedroom or just a studio.

We generally tip as a rule, usually $3-5 a night depending on where we are staying. But honestly, lately our tipping has dropped off based on the poor Mousekeeping that we've received during the last couple visits. There has been a huge drop in quality in our opinion. It seems it is always upon getting to the room, not usually during the stay(we are DVC so while there it's not an issue mid-stay) -it's almost as if they are rushing(understaffed) to get people moved into their rooms. But what good is that if you walk in and discover hair all over the sink and countertop? Then, we transfer to AKV for the rest of the trip and the 2nd bedroom floor was covered in crackers/chips and whatever else -but obviously the floor never saw a vacuum. It was late when we got to the room, and so frustrated, my 10yo DD just cleaned it herself. When we call, the issues are handled quickly -but give me a break, do it right the first time. Very discouraging. Years ago this NEVER would have happened.

We don't tip housekeeping either, since it's a non-tipped position. We do most of the cleaning anyway, since it's a timeshare and there is no daily housekeeping.

We're two very clean and tidy people. Nonetheless, we tip the mousekeeping staff. Unfortunately, when we leave a tip it has nothing to do with how we found our accommodations. I would love to have a way to tip the person (or not) who cleaned the room(s) in preparation for our stay. This is the most important service (IMHO) during our stay. We can keep it clean, but we really want a well cleaned unit to start with.

ITA. Sometimes if I think the room is particularly well cleaned when we arrive I call the mousekeeping supervisor and ask for the name of the mousekeeper who prepared our room and give her (Have you ever noticed that it's ALWAYS a HER?) a tip. The mousekeepers always seem so pleased to be appreciated and the supervisors are glad to hear good reports. And you had better believe that we get great service during our stay! I don't feel that the fact that we clean everything up before we leave has anything to do with leaving a tip. That is just civilized behavior when staying anywhere.

Great Idea!!!! :thumbsup2

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I hadn't thought of it myself. I am the first person to stop and leave a positive comment when I have a good experience or service and I can't believe that I never thought to do this. Hopefully in 23 days I will be able to correct this oversight ... VWL here we come!

So if we don't tip, then we are uncivilized? :confused3

From Passporter.com:"Tipping housekeeping is an age-old custom, but it is not expected at Disney. If you feel it's unnecessary, don't feel obligated."

I generally tip, the amount varies, depending if it is a full cleaning day, trash ad towel, studio, one bedroom, etc.

We don't tip either. Aren't we already paying for housecleaning with our monthly dues?
