How Are You Getting There?

Not Sept but Oct for us and we are driving as is our usual mode of transport to the World and the only one that saves us money and the kids absolutley love mind you so does the wife and I enjoy it also. There truly is no better way to travel to the World then driving.

We drive 2x a year from Ottawa. It's part of the adventure. Old movies, surprise bags and a cooler full of food/drink. Even with the price of gas, it's still cheaper for a family of 5 to drive. :cool1: :yay: :dance3:

I agree we love the drive and for our family of 6 it is way way cheaper to drive. We have the DVD player in teh van but it never gets used the kids would rather talk or colour or read etc.

I am going to the food & wine festival late Oct...maybe 3rd week. Might book the Hotel tomorrow then think about air. Am looking at adding a 4 day Disney Cruise on as well....we shall see. Wonder what air is like in Oct?

Leaving Labour Day Monday from Buf on SW for $600 for 3 of us. Not bad but certainly not the $39 DINGS of a few years ago.

Hi, we just fit into the September category...we're flying out of Detroit Sept. 30th but haven't booked flights yet. Sorry to hear about Spirit's troubles as we usually use them. I was leary of SW after hearing about their safety violations, but I suppose they will have to be careful with that now anyway.

I think you got a little bit hosed in terms of airfare - but that's in comparison to U.S. costs. In terms of Canadian flights out of Canada, I think you did reasonably well.

I can't tell from your post whether you are in a Std. or Pref. room at Pop, and when you say Hopper "plus" - I don't know if you meant PLUS Water Parks.

Anyway, your package without airfare would run somewhere between $1500 and $1750 (or so) - meaning that your flight costs are running somewhere between $333 and $400 per person return. Out of Pearson, that's actually not bad.

If I could have gotten West Jet for $333 and $400 out of Pearson, I would have instead of booking Southwest. Unfortunately, without a package, I can't. Oh well....Buffalo will be a new experience. :)

Flying out of pearson was our only option as DH is working until 6am and then we are leaving at 10. I didn't want to wait even a few more hours to drive to Buffalo. Yes I am that impatient.lol

another driver here.....:drive:

I would rather fly but we are going the 2 weeks surrounding July 4th so the fares were higher(BUF) than I have paid in the past. Even with the higher gas prices it will cost us about half to drive over fly this year.

I keep hoping for a Ding or something but with less than 3 weeks until we leave I doubt it'll happen.

We got good prices out of BUF for August ($800 for 4).
The prices have almost doubled to book the same flights today !
I would fly almost evertime. Heres why.
1)I hate driving (well thats a pretty good reason on its own :goodvibes )
2)Its hard for me to put a price on "time" and unfortunately the 3 to 4 days of travelling time using a car cuts into my already "short enough" vacation allowance.
3)Obviously the gas prices are a big factor when it comes to driving (especially using a larger vehicle)but, even using a smaller 4 cylinder (running the guts out of it :goodvibes ),you have to consider (especially with a heavy load...passengers and luggage),the uncalculable wear and tear on the engine (ie:to calculate the cost of getting to WDW using just fuel is inaccurate because adding the 2000 KM wear and tear is also a factor).

You can tell that I'm not a big fan of driving :rotfl:

I totally agree with this but my DH is the driving force:rotfl2: behind this road trip. Unfortunately for me he works in the auto industry in parts and service so he 'knows it all' and says there is no problem with driving. By that I am referring to the wear and tear on my van. My response to that.....whatever.:faint:

Price wise, we drove down last year and it cost us, family of 4, $570 round trip for gas/food/hotel. I totally HATE car trips but I did agree to it last year. Once in a while I'm up for it but not 2 years in a row.

Oh well at least the mouse is waiting for me.:hyper:

If you want a real shock check out the airfare for March break 2009 out of Pearson. Westjet is $4600 for 4 and Air Canada is higher. Time to check out Buffalo airport.

Ouch. Probably cheaper going to Asia or Australia.

We are going in August, so not sure if this is relevant or not. We booked back in March. We always fly out of Buffalo (although, this is our first trip to Disney, we do travel to Florida every year) We have flown with both JetBlue and AirTran. My husband is tall, and he prefers JetBlue, but for the sake of cheapness, he was willing to go on AirTran when we go in August.

We paid $89 one way. I have checked out flying out of Toronto, and it was going to cost over $2000!!

We are going Sept 14-21. Flying out of Detroit with Southwest. Got a good deal and a internet discount. Just over three months to go. yippee

Hugs

We are going September 13-20th and we are driving :drive: We will leave on September 11th and drive straight through so we can spend the night in Orlando and rest up for Disney on the 13th. It is only the two of us this year so the price was about even if we flew out of Detroit but DH hates flying and we really enjoy the freedom of driving and find it much less stressful.

I am jealous of all the fares I am reading about. We will be flying out from Calgary in January 2009. Keeping an eye on fares to MCO and right now the cheapest is $800 return PER PERSON!!!! With extra baggage costs, we will probably be paying $3000 to get there and back for us 3. This 2week trip/cruise is going to cost us $10,000!!! I don't even want to go anymore, but I am outnumbered.

There will be seat sales! January is the best time for sales. You will probably find your best deal around October. Check out other arrivals etc Tampa we found it 50%cheaper to fly into Tampa.:goodvibes

With a lease vehicle we don't even consider wear and tear as the car is only in my possession for 3-4 years tops not to mention that we are always under our allowable mileage upon return for the lease. SO calculating wear and tear is not an issue for us it is only the cost of fuel and any accommodations if we decide to stay along the way.

We are flying AirTran from Detroit on Sept. 12th, returning Sept. 20th. We are paying approximately $95 pp/each way all fees and taxes included but no seat selection. The prices have gone up a little since we booked. Since it's just my DH and I, if we get seperated on the flight, it is only a couple of hours and no big deal. I wanted to save the $35 for a lunch or pins:goodvibes

Leaving Labour Day Monday from Buf on SW for $600 for 3 of us. Not bad but certainly not the $39 DINGS of a few years ago.

We are also flying out on Labour Day Monday from Buf on SW but were quoted $777 for 3 of us. When did you book your flight?
What are DINGS?
