We are going in the summer for the first time. Previously, we were there in the spring, the fall (around Columbus Day) and Christmas week.

How are the crowds in the first week of August compared to the end of April? Compared to Christmas week?

I have checked Expedia and all of the Disney hotels seem to have lots of availability. I was just able to book WL at the AP rate (all room types were available at the AP rate). That sounds like there aren't too many people at Disney hotels.

If you've been here for Christmas week, then you've seen the worst. It will be much more crowded than the end of April though. The first week of August is very crowded...still prime time here and it will also be very hot and humid.

My main strategy would be to get to the parks slightly before opening and hit some of the bigger attractions early...and utilize fast pass. All the major attractions will have 60-90 minute waits...minimum by 11am-noon each day. Avoid EMH evening parks because they get very, very crowded by early afternoon. And if you choose to do an EMH morning park, leave that park by 11am and head to another non-EMH park.

Plan for pool breaks as well to rejuvenate yourselves from the heat.

The second week is considerable less crowded because the FL schools start back. We went last August 9-14 and the crowd levels were great it was the HEAT that was AWFUL!
