How are British visitors viewed?

When we're in the US we tip 15-20% depending on service. We may have been clueless the first time we went, but we learned fast (I still remember the cab driver in who yelled at us "ME TIP!" after he got us LOST in the middle of Newark at 1am).

Should have told him that it also must have gotten lost.

We met a nice british family on the bus on our last trip. I loved talking to them. Can't get enough of the accent. They were polite and friendly. The only tourist I can ever say no matter what country they are from that bothers me are rude pushy ones. In my opinion just as many americans fall into that category as other countries.

Does anyone have any opinions of us British? I would be interested to know your views on this subject.
Interesting thread.

Personally, I find politeness -- and rudeness -- to be as common in Americans as it is with any other nationality. Neither I nor any of my cocast have any particular gripe with Brits -- or, indeed, with any other nationality.

Hey I love the British, I also love to hear them speak I love the accent..:cloud9:

P.S. They are cookies and not biscuits..LMAO

I LOVE the British visitors. When I visited Universal and WDW last September/October, they were a real presence in the parks. I estimate that they accounted for at least half of the people at Universal. I will visit WDW and Universal again this September and I am looking forward to seeing more British tourists.

How can you tell if someone is British from their appearance?

I can generally tell that someone is English before I hear their accent. I cannot put my finger on why that is, but I am nearly always right. It's not the clothing or manners, but something in the face that distinguishes them from Americans and other nationalities.

Me, too!!!

Canadians and Australians as well. :goodvibes

Traveled to WDW last Sept with my son alone (first time with out the rest of the family). He is a disabled adult. I was nervous going alone. For the first time I was aware that we were being watched, normally the gang of us are talking and laughing and oblivious to others stares or quiet interest. My son speaks very minimally, so it's not like we are conversing.

The British were everywhere, they were 90% of the folks at Discovery Cove and Blizzard Beach. They were WONDERFUL ! They spoke TO my son, they spoke to me, they asked questions, they offered help, they chased me down when he dropped something. I was overwhelmed with their kindness. I must say that is not necessarily the case with my fellow Americans. We are returning this Sept and I hope the parks are full of British, it would make our trip complete.

PS DH LOVES UK, he's actually there right now. He tries to get there (and Ireland) a couple times a year. We have a 24/7 football channel on our TV (I have three USSF certified referees yelling at the tv) and he is a hardcore Arsenal Fan, you know by the window sticker on his car. :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

People are people..good and bad everywhere

we were just there the end of May and I saw quite a few Brits...do you have early school holidays there?

I will say one Brit went out of her way to help me and make sure I was heading in the right direction. very nice friendly lady

I have to say, being there last week and seeing LOTS of British people. They always seem super nice to me. Very polite and, of course, we Americans love to hear the accent! :thumbsup2

Also went to England last year with my husband and found everyone there to be quite 'lovely'. I think Americans are probably more worried about y'all liking us. :)

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but the English language, and hence it's pronunciation, was 'invented' in Great Britain. It's we Americans who have the funny accent.

I have a question to the Brits, when you hear Americans talking to you think we have a accent??

Haha, very good point Bill! I am sure the British think our accent almost crude, especially mine being from Texas. :)

I think Brits are very polite...this one kills my DH...we were in line for a ride and there was a mom, dad and 2 yourng boys. One was complaining about the wait in line and the dad turned to him and said "I am tired of your mouth, would you kindly just shut it?"

We thought this was the most polite way of reprimanding your child we have ever seen!

My take on the original story is that the 2nd couple got seated because they were more vocal and demanding about it. The British couple asked and accepted the answer of "no", the American couple didn't. There are rude people everywhere and polite people everywhere. However, there are of course cultural differences. We find different things rude here than do the British and we speak up about things they may not and vice versa. This is true of all cultures. I would guess that WDW in the US, you get many people who have never traveled before and who aren't familiar with different cultures & ethnicities so my guess is that the parks might be a bit US-centric.

I treat them well depending on what football club they support.....
Just kidding, you're people just like everyone else.
Do unto others....

I really enjoy being around British people. I agree with many of my other fellow posters by saying that their are annoying people of all nationalities that we all encounter at WDW. I will say that their are some tour groups that come in the summer that drive me a little crazy.

I just wanted to say we enjoy the Brittish visitors alot. My children go on and on about it when ever we come across families from the U.K in wdw. When people ask my kids, don't you get tired of going to disney they allways say no and they tell them how we get to meet and see people from all over the world. We use to travel in July and we love that time, but last October when we were there, there were British visitors everywhere. At Blizzard Beach we were the only americans in the section we were sitting. It was the best trip !! Thank-you for coming here and making our trips better !!
