How are British visitors viewed?

How can you tell if someone is British from their appearance? Unless someone specifically told me that they were from Britain or another country I would never fully be able to know where they are from.

It is usually easy to pick them out of the crowd. Of course, not always - but many are. Very, very fair (expecially on the legs). Sunburnt. Light dash of freckles, the clothes they wear, etc.

I've been to England 3 times in the past 2 years - I don't know that overall, I had a big opinion of the British at WDW one way or another before that (well, the Brits always seem to have the best trip reports - full of wrinklies and beer!). They always seemed to be having a good time, they spend money in our city, and seemed nice. I only had one rude Brit at WDW, that I can remember - he was in back of me in a Disney monorail line. He kept hitting me with his belly. He really needed to learn where he left off, and where the next person began. :) It was pretty continuous until I finally was on the train!

Not just the difference in how bacon is cooked, but the difference in what it actually IS. Bacon in the UK is more like what an American would call Canadian Bacon, it is taken off the pig's back. American bacon is known as "streaky bacon" in the UK, it comes from around the belly.
.

I don't like British bacon! I forgot when I had some at the B&B - eww, more like a ham steak I guess. They did a good job with it, I just like the crispy stuff.

The Brits have THE best candy! Taxi's, Marks and Spencers Tea Cakes, ASDA Puffins - yum. And tea - I love Whittard. :) The hot chocolate is great there too.

I find this thread very interesting. No, I do not think that British tourists in WDW in general are rude. In fact, I admire their dress and politeness. Being an American teenager, I have seen, and also am yet to see, humanity at its worst. So many times have I stood in line at WDW or somewhere outside of WDW and said to my self, "He/she gives Americans a bad name." Yet at the same time, I am fully aware of the important fact that nationality does matter- their will always be the "rotten eggs" in any society or culture.

This is an interesting thread - don't know about all us Brits but us Scots you can always tell because of our Red hair and kilts! Oh and we all drink Irn Bru and do the Highland Fling all the time too!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :dance3: :dance3:

I have to say the tipping culture is not so big over here but is something that I am VERY paranoid about in the USA because one of my best friends works in a restaurant in Seattle and she is the biggest tipper ever.

(Scottish girl who's actually blonde without tartan or Irn Bru though have been know to do the odd fling whilst under the influence. Have to admit though I will be freckled and pink whilst at Disney!)

And how you say "highland cow" - we were on a day tour - a bus through the highlands, and the bus driver was saying "ha-lan COO to the left, h-lan COOO to the right! I had no idea what he was talking about. :)

I LOVED Scotland, what we saw in a few days. Next trip, I think it will be more a British Isles type tour, with Dublin also. And Paris, I can't not go there! :)

It's more like hee lan coo!! And they are all called Morag - which sadly, so am I!!! Gotta love your parents sometimes :sad2: !

Watch yourself in Dublin though - those Irish all have pointy toes and green hats and drink Guiness!!! Actually I think most of them do drink Guiness - especially in Dublin! The Guiness Factory is a great afternoon if you do go to Dublin!

I have traveled a bit and lived in France for a year. In my view, all nations have good and bad. I don't know much about the tipping issue, but there are plenty of americans who won't tip either. All my experiences with British people were great! I agree with some of the other postings that your incident was probably more the squeeky wheel than nationality.

That might have been it! He actually wasn't speaking with a full-on Scottish accent the whole time, so everyone could understand him (he showed us how he does speak normally!). But I guess I'd not heard when he spoke about the "coos" out the window to begin with (you'd think I'd have put 2 and 2 together since we had already petted one!) :)

I'll watch for the pointy toes. :)

I will say that Scotland has lovely areas for bus/car parking - at least in the Highland areas. The food was good, the souvenirs were pretty reasonable. And I like the Scottsmid, I'm always looking for grocery stores (the UK has the best - Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco, Marks and Spencer...I spend like half my time at the grocery!) I've not even been to Harrods. :)

Yeah Scotland has a lot of nice bits - but the weather ain't so great mostof the time!! I love America but I've got to admit Marks & Spencers does the best food!! Though it's expensive :-(

Anyway since I'm the other side of the world it's time for me to head home from work(? cause I've been working soooooo hard for the last half hour - NOT!) and put some nice groceries on for the dinner!! (If hubby hasn't got in and done so first ;) )

It was raining when we went. I was soooo surprised (not!) But it's a nice change from Florida, where it's hot here much of the time (and with the very hot sun!)

I didn't realize there was a Morag cow too, that might be a tough name to deal with as well! :)
