How Are Annual Dues Handled

We just signed two contracts for BW resales. We are not responsible for any annual dues until Jan. 2014. The question I have is - will we get something from DVC directly when they are due (a bill or something) and are they due in a lump sum or can you make monthly payments? This is the one piece of the puzzle that I haven't figured out yet. Thanks

Annual Dues statements are mailed out in December after they are approved by the board during the annual condo meeting. They will be due 1/15, and are considered late if paid after 2/14. You can elect to have them withdrawn monthly from a US financial institution. Monthly dues payments are interest free.

Thanks for the quick response. If we decided to pay monthly, is the information on how to do that included in the statement we would receive?

No. You would need to contact Member Accounting to setup monthly dues payments. No need to wait for the dues statement, Member Accounting can setup monthly dues payments as soon as your member account has been setup. Member Accounting can be reached at the same phone number as Member Services, but using a different option on the phone menu.

Once your dues are set for monthly payments, you will still receive the annual dues statement and it will show your monthly payment amounts.

If I were in your shoes I would take the next few months to pay a savings account monthly to get the total amount you estimate will be needed, then use a credit card with rewards to pay for the dues in full. Then keep on paying the savings account monthly through the year, do it again in '15, etc. So it's a monthly payment for you (though of course the remaining 2013 months mean a much bigger payment than future years!) but then you get to benefit from the CC rewards.

You should set up your monthly withdrawal election to begin 2014 with MS Accounting before December 2013 and thus before you get that dues statement. It is a simple process of filling out a form and sending it in with a void check showing your account.

Is there a benefit to using a Disney Rewards Visa other than the 1% in Disney Dollars we get on the free card?

This is what I do. I pay myself the monthly payments (into an online savings account via direct deposit). Then, I use my Target RedCard and (hopefully) the extra 5% coupon that comes around the holidays, to buy enough $50 gift cards to cover the dues. That way, I save about 9% off the cost of my dues:cool1:. When the Target bill comes, I take the money out of the online bank account and pay it off. There is always leftover that I just roll over into next year to cover any increase in MF's.

I looked on the online payment and it wants a debit or credit card. How do you pay with gift cards?
This is a great idea!

You cannot pay with gift cards online, but you can call Member Accounting and pay with gift cards. Believe me, they are accustomed to members calling in using gift cards.

True DAT!

I called because I wanted to pay our $2, 500 MFs with $50 cards and the CM advised me to fax in the list, then call back in a couple of days to make sure they got it and all cards were applied.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a policy change to either add a service fee for paying with gift cards or no longer accepting them for dues. Its a labor intensive task for DVC to accept them. I wouldn't COUNT on this being a good deal forever. But it is a good deal now.

There are trade offs - Disney would not have any other fees associated with it like accepting credit cards and probably consider it a balance.

I am a devoted coupon clipper and penny pincher in many ways but I just can't bring myself to submit 130 gift cards to pay dues. In recent years Target has had a promotion in December that makes the gift card buying an even better deal by offering free Target gift cards with the purchase of the Disney gift cards, so it has been tempting. But I like to think that by refraining from doing that I am not jeopardizing the current policy of using gift cards for dues. I agree with crisi that if the labor costs of entering all the gift cards becomes a problem then Disney may disallow gift cards for dues.

Gift cards have similar processing fees.

Disney gift cards only redeemable at Disney? Let me change this - that would be odd and unnecessary.

Usually gift cards issued and redeemed by a single business are handled differently. The cost would be somewhere in the outside sale of the card.

Things like Amex and Visa GC's definitely have the fees.

I am the same way Jean. I am not happy unless I can at least double dip or even triple dip on getting a discount/cashback/reward point on any purchase. I do not have a Target Red Card because of the $50 limit on the gift cards. But I have bought many $500 gift cards at Winn Dixie getting as much as 5x the reward points on my cc and getting fuel perks. Much easier to call MAdmin to pay with $500 cards than the $50 cards.

We pay straight out of our bank using our debit card as a master card. When we use our debit card as a MC we earn rewards. After this years payment we should have enough rewards for RT air via US Air.

I am a new resale member. We don't want to do monthly payments. What are the payment options for the full amount in January? can I pay with any credit card on the member site or do I need to send a check?

Yes, you may pay with all the major credit cards online.
