In South Carolina, we are just under $1.70 a gallon for regular unleaded now. Hoping this keeps up through our drive down in a week and a half. We tow a pop up with a Sante Fe and the mileage is really rough. What are your prices like? Anyone seen the gas prices in GA or Florida? Everyone is more expensive than us in SC but this is definitely better than they were on our last trip down!

According to GasBuddy.com, regular unleaded at the Hess stations at Disney is $2.01. We are paying $1.93 in Illinois near St. Louis.

Thank God for the States and Private industry for increasing the supply, thus driving down the price of gas. Gee, the old Supply and Demand Curve!!

Mags,

As 2DIZNY mentioned, the Gasbuddy.com website is a good resource and has a gas price map:

http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx

That you can zoom into on your route to the Fort (maybe I75 or I95 in FL) and you can see reported gas prices. I've used the Gas Prices/Calculator to fill in my tank size/mileage and it will recommend the cheapest places to fill up and still get you there.

Your van probably does take a hit on mileage with the popup. I pulled a popup with my Chrysler Town & Country minivan for years before I upgraded to a used Suburban. Can it pull it? Yes. Was it up near the weight limit? Yes. (the popup had a slideout and was over 3,000#). Did I have extra brake and transmission work? Yes.

If your popup is light don't worry about it - sure it takes a hit when you tow but the rest of the time you're getting more MPG around town than I am in my Suburban.

I came back from the Fort a week ago and paid $2.1x in Florida on the I-10 corridor and that same range on I75 between the Turnpike and Tampa. In Alabama I paid $1.9x so it was a pleasant surprise. I almost didn't care where I stopped to fill up (almost).

When are you headed south?

I'm loving it! Last August when we drove our class c down to the fort from MA gas was around $4 for a round trip cost of about $900! Should half that this April hopefully!.

Unfortunately it's offset by the fact that there are no more AAA discounts so I'll about break even from last trip give or take a bit.

PA prices are still around $ 2.50 a gallon. Our state tax is terrible, nearly 70 cents per gallon, I believe. Looks like gas will be better on the way down. :thumbsup2

We've been hovering in the $1.80 range in Central VA. Last week I filled up at $1.77/gallon. :thumbsup2

With these gas prices I wish I was towing my dad's Jayco hybrid to the Fort instead of renting a cabin!

News report a couple of minutes ago stated that experts say gas will have a 50 cents/gal increase later in the year.

I'm out in California & prices are a bit higher here and vary widely. We tow with a diesel and prices are always higher than gas. That being said diesel has really dropped! To the point where, at last calculation, the fuel price for our 6000 mile round-trip has dropped by close to $250.00.

I'm not holding my breath or counting on anything though. I expect that prices will begin to rise. I'm betting they'll start going up around Easter.

Gassed up both cars yesterday. Palm Coast Florida - South of Jacksonville - South of St Augustine - North of Daytona Beach is $2.07 at the stations in our areas. I am not complaining, but like the $1.70 in South Carolina. :yay:

Georgia gas prices, at least in the middle of the state, are hovering around $1.90/gallon for 87 octane. Diesel prices are still over $2, but much lower than they were in the last several months. Gas prices south of Macon on I-75 typically are much lower than Macon and points north toward Atlanta as this region is in one of those "primary polluter" regions that have adverse affects on Atlanta's pollution. In other words, the farther south you get from Macon, the cheaper the price. Valdosta area prices are typically more in line with Macon and points north due to their proximity to the Florida line.

Paid 3.009 for diesel in GA on the 17th, paid 2.829 the next day in VA. With prices down 1.00 or more a gallon since I budgeted fuel for my January trip it really did save me around 175 this year from the budgeted fuel amount.

Where in GA did you fill?

That is good to know. We live in SC just across the border from Hartwell GA. Gas is always 20 to 30 cents more a gallon in Hartwell. We go to church there but when we need to fill up the tank we always head into town in SC instead! We will be coming down I75 so I will remember your tip.

Pilot at Exit 29, cash price minus 6c a gallon on the good sam/flying J card. When you are a 40' fifth wheel fueling on the road has limited options. Diesel was 2.829 just off the Disney campus but I still had about 45 gallons on board. Once I took on 55 gallons in GA, and I made it north of richmond before I was down to about 20 gallons left. I stopped there for a bathroom break at the Pilot at exit 104 in VA, and took on another 35 gallons since it was 2.829 which is a little lower then home and I would still have plenty fuel to take me to the end of the month. Otherwise I would have been under 1/4 tank when I got home and had to fill up anyway.

I run the stock tank plus a 45 gallon secondary tank in the bed, it lets me pass NC prices, SC prices where close to GA, but I still bought fuel before paying near highway prices for diesel in FL.

Prices have dropped a little more since Sunday and I would pay 2.799 in VA today, or 2.839 in GA today with the discount cards.

In the Austin, Tx area - we are paying $ 1.70 for regular & I paid this week-end in Bastrop, Tx $2.37 for diesel!!
I normally pay approx $120.00 to fill up my truck, but it sure is nice paying under $80.00 to fill it up.:cool1:

$ 1.89 gallon in Tn
Wish we could bottle it! LOL! Probably start going back up before we go on Vacation

$1.52 gallon in Michigan for regular gas, diesel $2.59. I had a $1.00 off per gallon in grocery store gas points so I only paid 52 cents a gallon, cost me just over $12.00 to fill my tank.
