How about this idea for a villans fifth gate?

What do you think about disney building a thrill ride park for their Villans park? I think it may work as Villans are ment to be scary and so are thrill rides (Coasters). Since it is said that young kids visiting are more interested in the heros and princesses they have the first 4 parks. The tweens and adults would appreciate the Villans park with rollercoasters and other thrill rides of the Villans park. Gives those thrill loving family members more then RRC, TT, Everest, BTMRR, and such. Keeps them happy and more willing to visit. What you all think?

Everyone on here hates roller coasters and they do not want us to have them. They think every ride should be for everyone, even though this is already not the case. If you say you want a roller coaster they will tell you to go to Six Flags. We aren't allowed to want our love of thrills to be combined with our love of Disney.

I like the idea of a fifth gate, and I like the idea of having it be more teen and adult oriented. That said, I don't think Villians is the way to go. At least not exclusively. I would build a park with themed lands (just like every other Disney park not named Epcot) and make Villian's Lair one of the lands. Marvel would also be heavily represented as would Star Wars/Lucas. It could also be home to rides based on other movies that don't get any treatment at WDW whatsoever. Like Tron. Or Black Cauldron. However, all things considered, I think all or most of this could be accomplished if they simply re-imagined their existing third gate the way DCA was re-imagined and re-built. Plenty of space there to do all of this imagineering if they get rid of the dead space already there. With ToT, RnR and ST already in place, DHS is ripe for a renewal that would add everything on our collective wishlists without having to break ground on a brand new park.

I'm very anti-coaster when it comes to MK or HS only because I want to see $$$ invested elsewhere, but as a 5th gate it would be a good idea, even if attached to another existing park like IoA is attached to US. That way families with both older and younger kids could feel comfortable letting the older kids go thrill seek, while there is still stuff for the younger ones to do.

I generally agree that DHS is a logical (and much needy) choice for some of this sort of thing. I'm actually a fan of the Tron movies and think that the subject matter could make at least three ridiculously good attractions somewhere within the WDW property (whether DHS or possibly even Future World in Epcot, where these would fit nicely and which also needs some desperate attention): (1) End of Line bar/restaurant; (2) a simulator similar in general concept to the old Body Wars idea where you shrink and get sucked into a computer and interact with the games, characters, etc., from the movie; and (3) subject to this being too similar to the simulator, create one of those motorcycle type coasters with a lightcycle theme (but an actual coaster rather than a 3D simulator). Honestly, even if nobody had ever seen either Tron movie, these ideas could still be made really interesting and appealing (sort of like how I'm hoping the Avatar stuff will be incredible enough that having seen or not seen the movie will be irrelevant).

Not a fan of the 5th gate idea, and certainly not one filled with coasters and the like. That's not Disney.

I still think the best fifth gate idea would be a marvel area. It would be perfect for thrill rides, meet and greets, and character dining experiences.

I don't really know what the best answer would be but I certainly believe that a park dedicated to Disney Villains would appeal to a greater segment of Disney guests that a Marvel only park. I know it would interest me more. But I could be in the minority. I know almost zero about Marvel except I like the Incredible Hulk coaster at Universal Islands of Adventure.

The success of the Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor franchises compared to Malificent suggests that Marvel would be the bigger winner. But the real point here is that there is room for both.

I don't necessarily think a park of solely coasters would be appealing to anyone (and I love coasters and would love more at WDW), but I also don't get why people don't think that Disney doesn't or shouldn't do coasters. Disney is about theming whatever a ride happens to be, coaster or not. The existing thrill rides are themed quite well...are those "not Disney?"

Disney has the market on families -- there can be no argument there. But to say that Disney shouldn't add more rides appealing to teenagers and adults seems over the edge. Frankly, my nine-year old daughter loves Dumbo, but if you offer her that or Tower of Terror or RnR, she will take the thrills 9 times out of 10. Yes, WDW and Universal appear to be trying to appeal to different audiences...but given that DHS is in pretty desperate need of a few new rides/attractions, why not try to appeal to that older (but increasingly younger) crowd that is currently begging their parents to take a day or two for Universal? New rides wouldn't even have to be at a giant coaster level, but could still be at the RnR or EE level with multiple theming approaches that would fit right into the Disney "world" (villains, Incredibles, Monsters, Star Wars, etc.). Who gets hurt by that? Nobody. Who would have incentive to keep their dollars at WDW? Everybody. Is there more room for family-friendly rides? Of course....but people don't need to write off thrill rides just because they don't like them.

the "Rock and Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith" may be a fun ride, but it seems to have nothing to do with Disney. A roller coaster about Aerosmith? Honestly it seems like an idea better suited for some other amusement park.

I'm with Kimosabe. There is certainly room for both types of attraction at a Disney park. Regarding the Light Cycle coaster, sounds like it's going up at Shanghai Disneyland. It will probably be awesome, and we'll probably never see it at a US property.

OP, I don't agree with many here that "thrill" rides are not Disney. However, I think there needs to be a balance. I don't see them every building a 5th Gate devoted entirely to super-intense rides.

  • ...Twilight Zone-not "Disney".
  • ...Muppets-wasn't "Disney" when it was first built. The franchise later came into the fold.
  • ...Indiana Jones-not "Disney"
Add in RnR and if you removed all the "non-Disney" stuff from DHS, there would be no park left.
