How about one more change in policy? Just a what if...

Why not just allow members and associates that are already listed?

Or, as somebody else stated, use the blue membership card.

I could see this getting "very" complicated when you've got a big family group coming in together. Example, we're going in October and taking both daughters and son-in-laws. Instead of a two bedroom this year, we've got studios booked for more privacy for each of us. Three different resorts - BWV, OKW, and VWL.

I guess I really need to put our girls and son-in-laws on the membership as Associate Members. They would still want me to book everything for them, though - they're too busy.

What "perks" do you think they would be missing out on?

When we stayed at VWL we rented movies and they looked at our key card and that was it. When we ate at Tony's the waitress looked at our card and told us that they now participate with the DVC lunch discount.

I agree that I think the card should only say DVC member if the person is a member. However, maybe the people checking the card should ask for the member card too.

Non-Members are NOT entitled to member benefits, regardless of what the key may say.

Even family members are not entitled to member benefits if the actual member is not there with them.

I agree. This was the whole point of my post. EVEN if a member you rent from tells you that you can get some of the discounts by showing your key card, you shouldn't, you're not entitled to them.

We are owners now but rented first. This visit occured in May at the VWL. I brought all the paperwork that was handed to me at check-in, home. I pulled it out today. It is in a Big, nice Welcome Home File Folder, in this folder is everything I need about what is going on that week, about VWL, and the "perks booklet". The book is very professional and it fully describes ,as a member what I am entitled to ,at my stay, food discounts, pool hopping and where and not to go, golf, mini golf , valet parking , free dvd's etc. On some of the items it does say that I will need my membership card to get the "perk" but for many it does not say a membership card is required. If this is handed at check-in, how do you expect people not to use it?

Actually some perks are specifically available to guests and others to the member only. But this is something that could change at any time.

I just think when my husband and I bring our grown children (and some day grandchildren) down for a family trip, it's nice that our whole family enjoys the benefits. That's why we bought the membership to start with - for our family to enjoy. If this became an issue in the future, I'd just quit claim some points over to them early. I just did this with my parents on some of our points (gave them points) - it's a very simple process to do.

Maybe, since you were not a member at the time, you would have disregarded the information because you were not entitled to anything.

I would have no problem whatsoever!

DH & I are the Members. We basically have paid for the perks we receive through our buy in & annual dues. We should be the only ones that receive them, IMO. Even if we had family travel with us I would only expect DVC Member perks to apply to our household (just like the AP discount).

I agree. If I ever brought my brother, friends, etc..I wouldn't expect them to get DVC member perks (when they are NOT members) and they wouldn't expect it either. I can't imagine them even asking for them. :confused3

Actually,by the time, our time came to go to Disney we were Members and had our Member Cards. We were still renting because we had been turned down 4 times. It was a Big Birthday Celebration and I was not changing my plans because I could not get a contract passed. I did not pay $10.00 per point to rent either, I think I paid a lot, since I have found what points sell for on the Rent/trade Board. WE did not have time to use the "member perks". Already had our trip planned out. I sure feel like I do a lot of explaining on this board.

I was answering rhetorically. If "you" are not a member, then why would you expect to get member perks? Even if they provide the information to you?

If "you" are not a member, "you" are not entitled to member perks.

Anytime we stay anywhere other than DVC resorts using cash, even though we have been members for just under 9 years, we do not expect to get member perks for that trip, except for those anytime perks like valet parking at DVC resorts and discounts.

To be honest with you, I don't get what the big deal is. Whether someone rents their points or lets someone else stay at a DVC resort on points, they are coming from a member.

Obviously DVC sees this as the member allowing their points to be used at their discretion & deems it okay that the member benefits be used by the person using the points.

It really doesn't bother me. Yeah, I'm paying dues, but if I let a family member use my points I would expect them to be able to use the DVC benefits. If I rented my points (which I don't) I really couldn't care either way. JMO!

What is the big deal about having you room key say DVC MEMBER, If your a member you don't have to look at your room key to be reminded of it. (Your bank account will tell you that)
Why is it such a inconvience to show your member card to get your "PERKS".
If it's important that your family, friends or renters get the "PERKS" also, give them your membercard, they can flash that to get their valet parking, etc, no one will look at it that carefully or ask for other ID anyway. (has anyone ever been asked for another form of ID when using valet or going to SAB.)

Personally I would rather they not even put my name on the card, let alone DVC MEMBER. I always request that they don't put the kids names on their cards

Why do the room keys need to say "member" at all? If they didn't you would just show your membership card for the perks, problem solved.

Several years ago, we stayed at a DVC resort that was booked through CRO. At check-in we inquired about park admissions and the CM said we could get a discount on Unlimited Park Hoppers because we were DVC. I told her we weren't members (not because I have scruples mind you, I assumed I'd have to provide verification). She said it didn't matter and gave us 10% off anyway.

As long as that word is on the card people are gonna' get the benefits.

I agree with you however I'm sure some would be upset. Heck, we get posts from people angry they didn't get a welcome home, how petty is that.
