Beaches and Cream gets mentioned all the time on these boards. The Dolphin Fountain appears to be a similar sort of place. Can anyone recommend it, or just comment on it? Can anyone who's eaten in both places compare them?

I've never eaten at Beaches and Cream, but we ate at the Dolphin Fountain. I don't remember it as being something to rave about as many people do about Beaches and Cream, but it was a decent place for a burger.

camcolt,

My faint memory from a brief snooping expedition to the Dolphin last year is that there is limited amount of table seating but no booths. I don't know if they wait tables like B&C does.

Thanks Erik! We are actually looking for counter service places around there for our first stay at the Swan in Dec. We are used to having a food court which works great for our picky kids who dont eat much. Im worried that we may be limited to sit down meals for our lunches/snacks.

Camcolt,

We will be staying at the Swan our arrival night (11/28) before moving to BCV, which is why I'm asking. Actually I wish we were staying at the Swan a little longer...

Though I haven't eaten there, I know that Tubbi's Buffeteria in the Dolphin is open 24 hours and probably serves as the "food court" for S/D.

We ate there about 2 years ago and liked it very much. There are waiters/waitresses and sometimes they spontaneously started dancing (50's, rock and roll type music, soda fountain decor). As I recall, there was at least as much seating area as B&C, which I don't consider very much. All tables--- no booths when we were there. Have no idea what we had, but would go back again. I don't remember that the ice cream choices were as exotic as B&C, but I think we might have just had sandwiches. Big help, aren't I? :)

They have good reliable familiar food, like hot dogs, burgers, grilled cheese and such. Great ice cream and sundaes, and very good cookies. The do have table service for their menu or you can walk up to the counter. It is open laterthan some places but Tubbis has a larger and more varied selection and is open all night. Tubbis has the best pizza around, and it is very reasonable. Also very good meatloaf... great breakfast and coffee.

The only sandwich I've had there is the BLT, but it was very good. They sell huge, delicious cookies that we have to get every trip!

May I suggest that you only eat dessert.

We were not that pleased with the burgers, hot dogs, french fries and onion rings. The meat was over cooked.

The service was very slow. Finally the manager came over to take us of because we had been waiting so long. I think we probably waited 15 minutes before we even got our drinks. It was not our servers fault. It was very crowded and she could not get to everyone and then get the drinks and then food out.

We have always enjoyed the desserts there. It is kinda hard to mess up ice cream. They even have sorbet. My DD has a problem with milk.

Hope this helps.
