So how about an F1 thread ?

Let's have your opinion on the return of Villeneuve ?

Sorry I'm not a big fan of Jacques Villeneuve, so a return to Indy racing would be fine for me.

I'm a big Michael Schumacher fan, he was my number one not long after the great Nigel Mansell left for Indy racing. I haven't had a British fave for years, but I find Jenson Button great to watch, I'm not sure about his move for next season as he has done so well for B.A.R.

I haven't been to a F1 race in years (cos of the kids) when I went to Silverstone a couple of times. I also love to watch the touring cars too.

A dream of mine is to visit Indianapolis when the kids have grown up and I've got loads of money (yeah, right !!!)

:( I've been following F1 for over thirty years now (I started as a very small child;) ) and I'm sad to say the last few years have bored me rigid. I don't get anywhere near the same amount of pleasure watching either qualifying or race day. Haven't been to a "live" race since the last time - British GP when Schumacher broke his leg.

Bring back the days of Prost and Senna - this was when F1 was fun. I tend to prefer watching rallying and touring cars now, much more interesting, but of course I still watch as many F1 races as I can, I just don't get the same buzz.

I was a HUGE fan of JV when he first arrived over on the F1 scene - probably because his father Gilles was the first real driver I took a shine to, not for looks but for the way he raced, even if he was in a Ferrari (which probably explains why I don't rate Schumacher, don't like Ferrari's see:eek: ).

I have met a number of F1 stars, most very pleasant when they don't have their "agents" telling them who to speak to, and have to say Schumacher is a very courteous person. But I don't rate him! Remember that ad - who would you most like to talk to? Well mine would be Senna and I'd love to challenge him to a race - identical cars - with Schumacher.

I think more so now that F1 has become so dull.

There are so many things that need changing - it's like Premiership Football, or like most sports these days. It's those with the large doses of cash injection that rule supreme (as one would expect), but look at the littler teams - BAR for instance, they've come a big way this year and long may it continue. Sadly they're still not up there with Ferrari. But McLaren, what the heck's happened there. I live in hope that the Ferrari's will start to over-develop themselves - like both McLaren and Williams have done - then we might go back to the good old days when an F1 race was exactly that - a race::yes::

Off my soapbox now:teeth:

To be honest I find the practice the day before the race where they are trying to the get the best lap time for pole position far more exciting then the actual race!

Shame really :(

Just seen a website report saying that Jaguar are pulling out of F1. Where does that leave DC and Anthony Davidson ?

On the dole :)

Frankly, I think Coulthard deserves to be on the dole the way he has been driving........but I hope that a place can be found for Anthony Davidson next year as he has looked impressive for BAR in Friday testing- maybe even replacing button.

And about next year- the way the FIA are talking, if the teams cant agree on some new regulations to cut costs and slow the cars down theyre going to turn the pinnacle of world motorsport into a go kart race! All this talk of wings so high you might as well not bother, engines from scalectrix cars and going back to one tyre manufacturer will turn the sport into nothing more than a glorified formula ford! I desperately hope that the designers at the teams can find their way around the changes. Even if it brings closer racing, what is the point when the cars are so comparitavely slow that driving down the motorway is more exhilerating..........

Ahhh, breathe out and relax.......rant over!

F1 is indeed terribly drab these days. I enjoy watching IRL much more now, and I never used to think that an oval race could possibly be interesting. We have 4 brits in the series, 3 of which are front runners, and theres so much action its untrue.

I also used to like watching Champ Cars, but they have become boring now, mainly because I cant stand Paul Tracey and he's doing well....Justin Wilson is racing in that series, but not very well.

F1 needs something radical, and quick. I say ban re-fueling, bring back manual gearboxes, and bring back the Turbo's....the turbo years were superb...yes they could activate the turbo and let anyone overtake anyone else, but at risk that they might run out of fuel before the end....fill em up with more fuel to allow more use of the turbo, then they have a weight problem and everyone goes quicker anyway...the sheer number of situations that can arise makes it very entertaining.

Oh, and getting rid of that idiot commentator might be a good move....Brundle is great, but James Allen is just a buerk....I say partner Brundle with the Irish guy who's name ive totaly forgotten, who used to commentate on Eurosport...John Watson is ringing bells, but not sure.

Good idea regarding the commentators Tron[ADS] thought apart from James Allen I think ITV's coverage is excellent despite what I have read with people crying for the BBC to regain the television rights. I find all of the BBC'c sports coverage ......well boring frankly with ITV running features and new ideas to improve. I do wish they could find the budget to build a studio (or even a small portable shed) for Jim Rosenthal to sit in during the coverage!! :umbrella:
