How about a WW challenge??? Inspired by the Alex challenge

I'm with Becka. WW tells you to vary your points and no *way* would I be a happy camper on 21 points per day for 7 days. Good luck to those of you who can pull it off! :) I'm sticking with our original challenge. :teeth:

I 90% sure I'm in but I have a question for Alex:

(I know you don't do WW but it's your challenge :))

How would I honestly figure pts for a local restaraunt? Just figure each item and hope it's accurate?!! I have two occasions in the next week where I may not know the exact pt value, but I'm willing to be as honest and accurate as I can be, good enough?

Also, I do agree that varying pts is the best way. But, for a week - heck, I'll try it!

Don't forget your vitamins ladies

If you're ok with that - than I'm 100%. I have 10 pts banked and was saving for this weekend - so bye bye pts and hello fat burning
:smooth:

I'm with Becka too. I'm not interested in this either, but I wish the rest of you good luck.

Maybe you can get the menu from the resturant ahead of time and decide what you are going to order. Then go to dwlz.com and try to find something very similar from the 100's of resturants that she has points for.

As far as varying points -- go for it. Just don't go OVER your bottom number. This is just for fun -- for one week. Consider it an experiment. That's what I am doing with the zero carb challenge!:D

Sorry guys -- but I'm bailing on the challenge too. :(

Activity points are supposed to be added to your minimum for the day to ensure your body's needs are met. They're NOT supposed to be earned just in order to be able to eat more.

I have already tried staying at my minimum number of points without adding on activity points and I didn't like the way I felt.

I will also be sticking to the original challenge of 1 point above the minimum, but my minimum will include activity points.

Good luck to those of you who are sticking with it!

WW doesn't work this way. You *have* to eat your minimum points each day, so there's no way to vary your points *and* not go over your bottom number.

hey guys..this is just for fun for those who WANT to try it...
The truth is you could eat nothing for a week and as long as you stayed hydrated you would live. So for those who can look at it as an interesting challenge or a fun experiment great but nobody should have to feel defensive for thinking it is not right for them...
It's supposed to be a FUN thing!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, Disneyaholic, could you explain the activity points? I have the original 123 Success points info (passed to me by a friend) and that's what I am following. No activity points or banking then. :)

I want a new clippie. Well...... I really want John's 40 pound clippie but I will take a different one in the meantime. ;)

I'll TRY to explain the activity points...

It's a sliding chart calculator thing, kind of like what you use to figure the points in your foods.

The variables are:
1) intensity level
2) minutes of activity
3) body weight

When you align all these variables, it tells you how many activity points you've "earned". Without the calculator they give you at WW, it's kind of hard to describe...

Hope this helped a little bit.

I"m going to opt out on the Alex challenge. With being new to WW I was told to stay mid-range of my points so my metobolism doesn't slow down. I've been eating and hitting mid-points...I usually bank points every day, but never use them.

Count me in!

I've been going really low on points since Monday, (trying out a WW/Vegetarian Atkins weight loss plan.) So I think I can keep it up for another week.

>Ding, Ding, Ding!<

The light bulb just went off! NOW I understand! And now I understand why I didn't have a clue! :D (and I can't add that to my plan ;) ) Thanks for explaining it, Disneyaholic. It sounds like a handy little feature of the newer WW versions.

Onward and downward we go! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Checking in for Thursday. I stayed On program and feel great. I got in a quick walk, and I plan on going to watch the Oprah special I taped! Hope everyone is doing well!

Alex,

Please don't be offended by all of the WW defections from the challenge. I think it just illustrates one of the huge philosophical differences between Atkins and WW. Atkins takes a very aggressive and revolutionary approach- you change your whole lifestyle to do it right, and the results can be very quick and dramatic. WW takes a more holistic approach- moderation is the key here, and the results are more gradual.

I was ready to bail and post to explain why I was not comfortable with the challenge after you wrote:

For one week you have to stay one point UNDER your allowed points every day with no banking :)

I think you now understand that this would not be legal on the Weight Watchers program, and I was happy to see that you quickly amended the challenge to being no more than one point over the minimum points.

I will be happy to take a challenge to stay on program- within the points range, using exercise and banked points, and faithfully journaling. That approach is working for me. I am not comfortable modifying the program by encouraging WW WISHers to eat below their points range or by disallowing the exercise points. I'm not comfortable encouraging fellow WWs to do this, especially since so many of our WISHers are doing WW on their own, and this board is their only source of WW support and information.

I guess I'm saying that I'm up for a challenge to journal faithfully, or be sure to drink the recommended water each day, or to stay within your points range. But I'm not up for a challenge that changes the WW points accounting or encourages us to go off program.

Didn't mean to sound like I mounted a soapbox. I just want people to understand why we're seeing so many defections here.

Hi Kathy...
I'm not offended in the slightest! It was something fun for people to try if they want to. If you read a couple of my other posts I think you will see I don't have a "one size fit's all" philosophy.
I kind of look at it like this...some people join the army.. and others volunteer for the special forces...they get paid the same but some people enjoy an EXTRA challenge.
If your approach is working than good for you!!! There is no reason to change anything. If you decide you want to take a week and experiment a little you can try it at anytime if YOU want too.
as I quoted in another post "everyone is an experiment of one".
I'm glad you are doing (and everyone else) what you feel is right for you.

just to confim - I am IN the Alex challenge!

I totally understand both sides of this - but i'm game for a week! I'm interested to see what my results will be. I actually don't usually bank exercising pts or use banked pts - but I give myself one cheat meal a week, which is probably pretty equaled anyhow! Once I am maintaining (did I say "once" and not "if ever?") then I will use my banked exercising pts for the day, if that works for me.

point being - I'm still here!

thursday update - journaling complete, within pt range

Kathy,
Thanks for explaining things so clearly. Being one of the WW people doing it on my own, these boards and Dotti's web site are my only source for WW info. I really appreciate your time and effort!!!! :teeth:

Day 1 is down and gone!!!! Out of 29 points I can use I used 26 and ate out!!! 6 days to go till Alex let's me have my Clippie!!!!

I sometimes used my banked points sometimes not. I almost never use my excercise points. As I feel it is an incentive to do somehting I whould be doing anyway!! I am in no means telling people I don't think they should use them. If you got em use them!!! But for me it works to not use them. ANd most weeks I have one day where I eat 8-10 points above my top end and this wayI don't have to worry about it. I accepted Alex's challenge because Within the next 6.25 pouns I hit several danger zones for me!!! I hit my all time lowest weight, having under 100 lbs. to loose and changing points levels. Soemthing in me always sabatoges myself when I get close to changing point levels!! I don't know what it is but I have NEVER changed a level.. I just stopped doing the program instead!! I need to prove to myself I can do this for a week. And it is only a week. for me I feel I can do this. ANd It could not have come at a better time for me!!!

Kathy:

THANK YOU SO MUCH for saying exactly what I am feeling, only phrasing it MUCH better than I was able to! I'm exactly in that same boat with you!!
