next year my entire family is planning a trip to disney but even though we can arrange the hotel/flight /park passes, has anyone had experience with paying for food for 6 adults when you say go to dinner or lunches.did you all pay seperate or did one person put it on their charge card??..i dont know why this puzzles me but i somehow see it as a dilema...thanks

We've gone with my sister and husband and my parents. We will usually take turns paying. For instance, we will pick up Tuesday nights sit down dinner, my sister gets Wednesday nights, my parents grab the character breakfast. This doesn't work if anyone is budget tight (because you don't control the size of your own check), or if you have someone caught up on "fair" (the tab may be $120 one night and $160 the next), but it has worked well for us.

I'm sure Disney will give you seperate checks. Or you can keep a running total and pay up at the end. Or split the checks evenly.

We've also, when the budget was tighter, carried travelers checks rather than cash or credit card. Makes budgeting very easy, and bills very easy to figure out on the spot.

:earsboy: WELCOME to the DIS 999thghost! :earsboy:

When I've been with a large group we've always just ask for seperate checks when they take our order.I think that works best! ;)

We use the "kitty" method. Everyone gives the banker in the group $200 (or whatever). The banker pays the bill. If the bank gets low, everyone pitches in again. If there's $$ left over, we divvy it up at the end of the trip. I suppose you could set ground rules (2 drink min.) or just know that someone in the group is going to look like they're taking advantage and you have to accept it.

HTH!

Actually, this will be our first trip to WDW with anyone but ourslves. But we have been BURNED in restaurants with others. I think Baloo is right, just get seperate checks.

Our problem is, we don't drink...we never have. If you go with people that are big drinkers the tab runs up quick and "splitting the bill" gets to be really unfair! So, first know who you are going with...second, get seperate checks. That way there is not hard feeling and you aren't springing on people that they owe more money at the last minute. I think that elminates the I paid this you paid that arguments that go on!

If it is just one dinner, especially with family, I'd split the bill. But if it is many meals and some are on a budget (and maybe some aren't!) then you're best asking for a separate check and just saying to the family that you're on a tight budget. I don't see how anyone could get their feelings hurt on that! But family is tricky! I'd mention it before getting to the restaurant so anything can be worked out beforehand. Have a great trip!

Is your group doing a package trip - would doing a food plan be an option? That way everyone is pre-paid and you have no worries about how to pay for meals.

"kitty" method how cute I've never heard of it.. but have done it many times..
we always give one person all the money .. after all we all know how to add...and for the tip everyone helps out... they end up getting good tips from us that way..
All it does is take one person to start collecting the money.. everyone esle knows thats their clue to help out...haha

There are many different ways to do this but it can depend on what type of group you have.

Separate checks is one option.

Also, you can split the bill.

What we usually do is get one bill, pass it around, everyone checks to see what they had & gets an approximate idea of what their share of the meal is & then throws in their "share" including tax & tip. The reason we do it this way is because we have 3 DD's. The people we usually go with either have no children or just 1. Plus if one family has a few drinks & another one doesn't it just doesn't seem right to split the bill.
