My DH may be getting a job in Houston. I am trying to get info on the area in case we decide to go. I have been looking at homes in the sugar Land area. Does anyone here know much about this area? How are the schools here? We have a DD that will be a Senior, and a DS that will be in the 8th grade. Are the schools/homes better in another area?
Any info would be helpful!!! Thanks!!:)

Best of luck

Not an Astros fan :(

but like steak

is he working in Houston or in Sugarland? it could be a long commute

the company is on Sommermeyer st. I am not sure where that is exactly, I am trying to see it on a map on mapquest, but I have dial-up, so it's slow going. I did see it on a map once, and it didn't seem very far.

My brother lives in Sugarland and works in the Galleria area.
The commute doesn't bother him because he did it when he lived in New York.`

I was born and raised in NW Houston, and now live in a suburb just north of the city. I looked up Sommermeyer and it looks to be close to Hwy 290, which is not close to Sugarland. There would be quite a commute and there would also be some nasty traffic to contend with.

It's possible that there is another Sommermeyer Street, but the only one in my keymap is the one off of Hempstead and 290. If this is where his office will be, you'll want to look in the Cy-Fair ISD-area, which is a very good school district.

Sugarland on the other hand, is also a nice area and it's really grown in the past ten years. That whole area is booming right now.

:scared: He must have nerves of steel! I HATE driving anywhere near The Galleria!

We grew up in New York so he was broken in really good. :rotfl:

A nice thing about Texas - big beautiful houses at low prices. :cool1:

it is off Hempstead and 290. It doesn't look far on the map, but I am sure that is decieving. I will check out the Cy-Fair ISD like you suggested. Thanks!!!:hippie:

where is the Cy-FAir school district? What city should I look at for houses? Sorry I am so stupid about this, I really don't know Houston at all!!!!:confused3

Cy-Fair is the nickname for Cypress-Fairbanks. The city would be Cypress. Very nice area but you don't want to live there unless you work in the area (which it sounds like will be the case). Driving into Houston from there is a nightmare. Well, driving into Houston from any of the outlying areas is a nightmare. :p I know. I do it daily.

ETA: I just looked at my boss' mailing address (he lives in the Cy-Fair school district) and it is Houston. So apparently part of the school district is in Houston. Maybe you should Google "Cypress-Fairbanks ISD boundaries" or something similar.

Go to www.har.com. Once there do your home search by just the school district, not county etc. We did this when we moved here last year and it helped weed out homes in the county that were in a different school district.
Good luck!

Cy-Fair is a very large school district. It branches out over a large area. Butted up to it in certain areas is Klein ISD, where I live. Both school districts are ranked highly in the state.

RE is what I do for a living and I don't think you're being stupid at all! You're being very smart! If you have any questions about the area, please don't hesitate to ask! Houston and its suburbs have a LOT going for it. Our housing market is one of our biggest bragging points!

ETA: I'm not sure what your price-point is, but you might want to check out Fairfield and the subdivisions around the Barker-Cypress area. The area is also fairly close to Waller, Tomball and a little farther east, Spring - where I am. Farther to the west is Katy and to the SW is Sugarland. There are lots of very nice master-planned communities (of which Fairfield is one) in the Houston-area. Once the Grand Parkway is finished, The Woodlands would even be an option!

Cypress is a small suburb of Houston and it is in Cy-Fair school district. The district is largely in Houston though - even near Willowbrook Mall.

I agree it sounds like the cy-fair school district would be closest to your husband's job. And I agree that "most" of cy-fair is a great school district, but there are some schools within the district that are not so great.

My DH graduated from a cy-fair school, and I have lived near that area most of my life. Now I am a little farther north in Spring.

Hope it all works out for you!

Make sure that you know the location of your DH's workplace and then plan accordingly. I'm originally from Houston, (well as much as an Air Force brat can be!) and as much as I miss the place, it can be murder to drive in.

But there's plenty of good areas. The key is looking in the suburbs unless you're wealthy.

I can't think of one school district in the Houston-area that the same can't be said about, unfortunately. We originally moved to Spring, to get away from a certain Klein high school.

you could always look in the memorial area too, I went to MHS and LOVED it there:thumbsup2 it was the best school i ever went to and i learned more there than any school I ever went to
