What is the appropriate amount to leave? We are staying at Value if that makes any difference/:confused3

I'll be interested to see the answers....we usually leave $1 per person...or around $4 per day. A fellow disboarder gave me the great idea of leaving the tip in a decorated envelope each day.... I Googled "tip envelopes" and several sites came up with pictures you can download. My kids think it's great to have Thank You envelopes with Disney pictures on them.

We usually leave at least $1.00 per person in the room, plus $1.00. In other words, if there are 4 of us, we leave $5.00 each day. And we do leave it every day, since we feel the person cleaning the room that day deserves that tip. If you wait until the end of your stay to leave it, it might go to someone who's never cleaned your particular room before...
If the room is messy, we leave more. And if we have a really awesome Mousekeeper, we'll reward him/her accordingly. I've been known to go down the hall seeking them out for that little bit of extra money. I feel they have a thankless job - and anything I can do to help out is usually really appreciated. I also like to leave a complimentary note with the desk, if I've experienced good or great service.
It doesn't really matter what type of resort you're in (value, mod, deluxe) IMHO.
I hope this helps - but I'm certainly not an authority on the subject. This is just what I feel comfortable doing.

most of the time the housekeepers at vaule hotels have more work to do because there are more rooms.....

its 1.oo a day person

We usually leave $3 on a pillow. It's usually just two of us but sometimes three, if my husband can get away.

Usually $1 per day per person is the minimum we leave. For us that's $3.

Typically we leave $5 on the first day (that's when we've just unpacked and the room usually looks like it just exploded), and then a bigger tip on our last day as well (that's when we wind up leaving quite a bit of garbage to be thrown out).

I don't leave anything.

Housekeeping in NOT a TIPPED position at Disney!!! In other words they are not paid expecting tips. The make the same as CM's, Do you tip all the ride operators? The turnstile CM's? If you don't why not?

If I leave a bunch of pizza boxes, cafeteria trays and dishes, or extra trash then I will leave something but not for anything else.

we usually leave $1 per person per day. If you leave a tip please be sure to do it each day not just one bulk tip on your check out day. By leaving it each day that insures that the person who cleaned your room that day gets the tip.

you dont have to tip ANY ONE unless you want to well unless it's a waiter and they put it on the bill:headache: but the norm is 1 day per person or 5 day.

There's many rules about other CM's recieving tips. It's forbidden, and all tips must be reported and turned in. I had several people try to tip in photopass and I had to decline it.
I don't tip at the BBB/Pirates League, because they're just regular merchandise CMs I don't get why they should allow special treatment over other merchandise locations. Plus BBB/PL make like 2-3$ more per hour than other merch locations. So housekeeping, luggage service, or anything that I know get regular wages don't recieve a tip. They're doing their job just the same as some one working in the parks that's not allowed to get a tip.

Waiters/waitress are the ONLY ones I tip, because that IS a tipping position.

Of course, it's your choice whether to leave a tip, or not. I choose to do so.
I copied this from About.com. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Disney, but it does show that some people do routinely tip Houskeeping Staff at hotels - it IS a tough job.

Maids/Housekeeping Staff -- A wide range is acceptable here, depending on the level of extra service and hotel level, but generally from $1-$5 per night. It is best to do your tipping daily, since you might have different people cleaning your room. Whatever you decide to leave, be sure to put the money in a sealed envelope, clearly marked, so there is no confusion as to who it belongs to.

How To Tip a Hotel Maid

Hotel maids, although often providing "invisible" services during your stay, can and should be tipped for good service. Tip correctly, and you show your appreciation and ensure the chambermaid will take special care with your room. Tip incorrectly, and misunderstandings can arise. Here's how to tip a hotel maid.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Five Minutes
Here's How:
1. Tip daily. The same maid may not service your room every night of your stay. If you wait until check-out time to tip for the entire stay, your tip may not go to the right person.
2. Mark your tip clearly. Leaving cash or change in the room is not a clear enough signal, as a hotel maid must be very careful about taking anything from your room. Enclose the tip in a sealed envelope (check the desk drawer for hotel stationary) and mark it "Chambermaid."
3. Leave your tip in an obvious place. On the television, on a pillow, or on the bathroom counter are all common places to leave the maid's tip.
4. Tip according to service and hotel type. In a luxury hotel, tip about $3-5 each night. For an average hotel, $1-2 per night is fine. If the maid goes above and beyond in service, such as providing extra soaps and shampoos or folding towels in the shape of swans (for example), feel free to leave a dollar or two more.
5. Don't tip for poor service. Like all tips, if you're not satisfied with the service the maid is providing, don't leave a tip (or reduce the amount you would tip).
Tips:
1. Leave a tip in cash, not with spare change.
2. If you can't find an envelope, or the hotel doesn't provide one, wrap the bills in a blank sheet of paper, labeled appropriately.
3. When you travel internationally, find out how to write "maid" or "Chambermaid" in the local language so you can label the envelope appropriately

Last trip my lotion got taken away at the airport (stupid me put it in my carry on! I was so frazzled with wedding stuff!), and so I left a note explaining the situation and asking for an extra lotion bottle. I left 3$. When we returned to the room, mousekeeping had left about 20 bottles! I left about 5$ a day after that, and continued to stock up on lotion. We did go back to $2-$3 per day when mousekeeping switched on the weekend. The new people didn't leave me ANY lotion/shampoo/conditioner.
