I have seen housing inspections mentioned several times but what are they exactly? What do they check for? What happens if you don't pass and what would cause you to fail the inspection? How often do they occur?

I am a pretty neat person but I want to know what to expect. Is it more focused on dirty dishes or garbage everywhere or do they expect you to have your stuff neat and put away all the time?

I think we only had 2 housing inspections during my program. They check for unsanitary conditions like overflowing garbage, spoiled food, really messy rooms, and mold in the tub. They also make sure that you haven't done anything drastic, like painted anything or put a hole through the wall. We were pretty neat, but put some effort into cleaning before inspections. They give you a time frame of what days they will be there, and when they came we were always at work. I think if you pass they left candy on the table. I don't recall anyone ever failing.:sad2:

Oh jeeze. Almost everyone I talked to failed so far! I guess they were being really strict this time around. We were one sink away from a White Glove, but we still passed and they left us fruit snacks. They are however strict about the walls. In my apartment we had a lot of posters and we took them down the day before inspection and put them back up. There were tack holes when we moved in and we just reused them.

We just had inspections the past two weeks. We passed our inspection overall but our fridge failed because we had too much food (they couldn't see our shelves in the fridge). I live in a four bedroom apt and we had all just gone grocery shopping.

A lot of my friends' apartments failed. They were being extremely strict for this round of inspections. I'm not sure if they usually are. One of my friends failed inspection because their trash was half full and they were cooking on the stove so the inspector couldn't check the stove. It's a fee if you fail and someone has to come in and clean your apartment.
