Housekeeping??

After a long day in the parks ending with Illuminations my DD got back to her villa to put her 3 little girls to bed. Pulling back the covers on the sofa bed to find a large yellow stain. A call to Mousekeeping took 2 hours. By this time she tried to settle the girls in the master. Finally someone came and threw some sheets at my daughter. My DD insisted the mousekeeper change the soiled sheets. I can't understand how anyone could put a stained sheet on . I think the sofa bed was never opened after the previous guest. If I used the sofa bed I leave it open on checkout.

We have been members since 2009 and I would probably classify myself as "clean freak."

Here would be my tally of our stays.

OKW-four stays--all very clean but general wear of villas do show from unit to unit due to age(example-tile/grout is old, but you could tell it was clean upon check in--yet as week went on, it looked worse and worse.)

SSR-three stays--both 1 bedrooms were spotless-probably the best we have had; we did have one studio that was tired looking and had a LARGE Coca-cola stain on ceiling. I used wipes to clean it up and all was good.

AKW-three stays-all 1 bedrooms-- very clean, except a couple stains in carpet

BLT-one stay-studio-Furniture had stains and chips but the rest of the unit and bathroom were clean. But I did not want to sit on sofa due to stains.

BWV-Five 1 bedroom stays-2 times the rooms were spotless, 1 was pretty good-I had to wipe down the kitchen appliances and floors; another the room looked good, but it smelled very strongly of garlic/ethnic spices all week long(really bothered us); and yes, finally, one absolutely disgusting stay--toilet was filthy with last guests' remains, hair everywhere, floors dirty, cereal under table, full size waffle in the corner, looked like long term disregard--dust/smears everywhere. Funny thing is this was 6 months after the refurb in 2010 or 2011.

So in 16 stays, only one that was disgusting and a few that needed some work. But all in all, I think they do a nice job for the number of people coming in and out. I just take my wipes and prepare to do a little bit. Also, I have learned that a phone call is not the way to handle issues. You have to go directly to mousekeeping to get the job done correctly.

This is a great, detailed report.
I disagree however... Your descriptions of having to "wipe this down" and "clean that up" etc should never have to happen. It does not matter how many people come through the resort. The room should be cleaned between guests. If they don't have enough housekeepers to do the job, than they need to hire more.

Yes, in a perfect world I do agree and would expect that I guess in a 5 star resort, but most of the Disney resorts are classified as a 3 I believe? Also, these hotels are for the masses--although expensive, you have an extremely varied clientele coming through and A LOT of kids. I guess I would like it to be a bit cleaner but have resigned myself that with a little tweaking it will work for me.

Since the sofa bed is in the way if it's open while we are getting ready, we strip off the sheets and close it.

I think because they are theme park resorts with tons of kids, it would be hard for them to live up to a Four Seasons type of standard. But they do the best they can, and usually hit a 4 star standard.

Mixed bag…. We stayed at BCV (2015 Christmas) and the room had an odor of male cat urine. When I entered the room, the thermostat was turned down low and it was freezing. I didn’t tell my wife about the odor and she noticed it as soon as she entered the room. I think the cleaning person was trying to mask the smell by running the AC continuously. The housekeeping manager had the room cleaned but unless you pinpoint and clean the affected area, the smell soon reappears.

We just returned from a stay at Grand Floridian villas and noticed the carpet was really dirty. The room was dinged up and the pocket doors are not designed for heavy traffic. I truly believe its more expensive to ignore issues. If housekeeping would keep up with issues when they arise, it would be less expensive in the long run and raise customer satisfaction.

We have been members since 1996 and have had the most problems with our home resort, BWV. On one visit we opened the refrigerator to put in our groceries and found an absolutely filthy rag laying on one of the shelves. I put the rag in a plastic bag, brought it down to the front desk, and they told me "Thank you for bringing this to our attention". On another visit, we checked in to find most of the tables and light switches to be covered in something sticky. Called housekeeping and they told us they would send someone up later that day to clean the unit again. I told them I didn't want to wait until "later that day" and to send someone up with cleaning products and I would do it myself.
The absolute worst room we encountered was at CSR on a split DVC/cash visit. The room was in the midst of a rehab and someone "forgot" to remove it from the available pool of rooms. The room was filthy dirty with dust and mud covering the floors, carpets and furniture. There were empty fast food containers all over the room including in the bathtub (someone really liked KFC). We contacted the front desk and they told us they would send someone over to verify what we had reported. After about 30 minutes, a manager finally showed up, "verified" what we had reported, and gave us a new room. We did not even get a sorry for the inconvenience and they made us feel like we were lying about the condition of the room.

For a company who touts their reputation as a magical wonderful place, they don't seem to care about extending it to the rooms.
