Housekeeping Question.

With all the talk about the quality of housekeeping going down the drain, I have a question about the housekeeping contracts. Does Disney make money off DVC for supplying housekeeping to the villas? Example: Do they charge DVC one price for housekeeping and then put the contract out to bid. Or is it a direct charge from the outside contractors to the bottom line of our yearly maintenance fees. I am wondering if we are paying less for housekeeping and that is why quality is going down. I just cant figure it out.

We had 2 rooms (1 studio at first then we moved into a 2bdroom when our friends arrived) at OKW in May. The rooms were outstanding. We had no issues with housekeeping at all. Unfortunatly several people have had bad rooms but I still feel this is the minority.

The yearly dues pay for Mousekeeping and a 12% administrative fee for DVD. Disney loves DVC because all costs are paid by the membership. If our costs increase, our dues increase.

So Disney receives 12% regardless. You would think that Disney would hire enough housekeepers to stop the headaches from occurring. In fact, that would increase their profit. So the question is why are we having a problem with housekeeping. I know some of you say “ we never had a problem” but their seems to be more and more complaints.

Finding good workers could be the problem. With the increased documentation pressure on employers it appears to me that the Mousekeeping work force has been changing. It is also a known fact that Disney doesn't pay well. Last December they offered a $1000 signing bonus for Mousekeepers. Our last couple of stays at SSR we noticed that the Mousekeepers weren't very friendly and the rooms were not as clean as they should have been.

Part of the problem is that there is a big "unskilled" labor shortage in central Fl. There are many more "lower wage" hospitality jobs (servers, housekeepers, greeters, etc) than there are people to fill those positions. Even Disney can't wave a magic wand to make a work force suddenly appear.
