Hey! I'm applying for the college program for Spring 2011 and I am currently trying to research the different roles. BBB is prob my first choice, because I did take a year off of college to get my cosmetology license and I love working with kids. However, Id like to eventually look into a professional internship with the event/wedding department. Because of this I think maybe my CP role should be something within hospitality. Ive heard that its one of the more difficult ones to get into. That being said, I would be happy with housekeeping even though its cleaning up after people lol its still showing me a look into the ins and out of a resort. I was wondering if anyone knew the hours that mousekeepers work? And if there are any cons to it (besdies the obvious cleaning toilets, etc) Thanks!

Found this thread, which when you have the time might help: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2103284&highlight=mousekeeping+hours

The main pro seems to be the scheduling. 8 hour shifts on regular basis with the most regular hours out of any role.

The con seems to be that it is hard work, especially for someone not used to manual labor.
As long as you're ready to really work and stay motivated about it, you'll be fine. But it is just that.. hard work. I will say though that she came home with tips from rooms a lot and even random stuff people left behind in the fridge like sodas and waters and even a bottle of wine once (though I'm not sure she was supposed to so you may want to check on the rules for this, haha). But like someone else said, you do usually work 8-4:30 every day so that's also a good thing because you know you'll get the hours every week.

If you really are interested in hospitality, definitely go for Hospitality, Consierge, Resort Hopper etc. But if you have your cosmetology license, you'll be a really strong candidate for BBB. You can still take the Exploration Series on Guest Services and share that experience.
Hospitality is the hallmark of the Walt Disney World Resort. Through our theme parks and resorts, we strive to satisfy and delight our Guests in the world's most hospitable vacation destination. In this DES, you will:

The hours are 8-4:30 if you get put in AM housekeeping, and 4pm-12:30am if you get put in PM housekeeping. I did both, and PM is MUCH better.

AM housekeeping...

VERY hard work, and IMO (and most of my co-workers'....) way too much stress for what its worth! I was constantly stressed out that I wouldn't finish my rooms on time (Depending on the resort, you have to do 16-18 rooms a day...and they do NOT split up the work evenly! All your rooms will usually be right next to each other...meaning ALL of them can be a checkout, which takes 2-3x longer to clean than an occupied!) Also, while their high standards are awesome from a guest's perspective, the expectations are EXTREMELY harsh and unfair to the housekeeper. Some of the resorts have only the manager inspecting the rooms (which isn't as bad), but some have a special team of inspectors who will inspect several rooms that you cleaned, come track you down, and send you back to the room to fix a problem with a lecture about how you aren't doing your job good enough. I almost always went home crying because I would have worked through my lunch break (almost every day this happened btw), busting my butt to just finish the rooms I was supposed to do, and then have someone come track me down and bring me back to a room to clean a water spot off of a mirror. The worst was when I would clean an occupied room early in the morning, the guest would come back to the room and mess it up a little, and then it would be inspected afterwards...and I'd be sent back to fix it, and the inspector would assume I was lying when I said the guest came back. Ahhh *** seriously this job is absolutely horrible and I would not recommend it to anyone.

PM Housekeeping...
Is WAY easier and MUCH better than AM housekeeping. I got switched to this after 3 months of begging because I HATED AM housekeeping with a passion. PM housekeeping you can be a rooms cleaner or a runner. Rooms cleaner will get calls to clean rooms, and the # of rooms you clean can vary from day to day (it depends on need) you can do anything from a guest requesting that their sheets be changed to a full checkout...but there definitely isn't the pressure that there is in AM housekeeping with the clock and inspectors on your tail stressing you out all day. I was usually a runner, which meant that I would be the person who basically brought extra towels to the guests rooms when they called for them. There would be other items to bring too, like soap/pillows/bedrails/cribs/rollaways etc...when I wasn't doing a call I was supposed to be making sure my area was generally clean. This job was super easy...the most stressful things were when there would be multiple calls at one time, or calls for hard to find items (usually specialty items for disabled guests like portable toilet seats etc)
