Housekeeping gets major upgrades to compete!

I wondered about the DVC aspect too. I don't really have any beef with housekeeping but I've read some reports from people who were not happy with the service.

I hope so too. Of the many times we've been there, I've only had two bad DVC experiences with housekeeping. That being said, the boards say differently and it seems to be a pervasive problem. Hoping also that this upgrade will be the same for DVC.

We have MANY horror stories I could tell, but the worst was on my initial DVC stay in Sept 2002 at VWL.
We got to our 1br and were extrememely excited about our first DVC stay. We pulled down the bedspread (at the time) to find a gigantic urine stain on the back side. Welcome Home.

I almost heaved.

That would be great if it was extended to DVC. In our 15 yrs of membership, we've encountered quite a few housekeeping issues and it seemed to be getting worse.

One of the worse experience was a few years ago. Our room was actually not ready until 7pm and when we got to our room, the beds were made and towels were changed but the kitchen was filthy. The sink was covered in what the previous occupants must have thrown in there before they left. We don't really cook, but the stove was very dirty with oil/grease all over the top. I can't imagine that Housekeeping did any cleaning since it looked like they did a very quick job and left. I understand that the previous guests may have been disgusting, but they shouldn't release that room until it's been thoroughly cleaned. It was not an oversight. You don't need to look to under things to know it was not cleaned properly....I did call down and asked them to clean it but I don't think I should have to do that. I can deal with my family's mess, but I cannot deal with someone else's disgusting habits....

Yes, I realize I'm still not over it...

Anyway, hopefully I don't have to see that again. I don't think I'd be as patient next time.

If costs increase because of this (and more staff has to mean increased costs), then our dues will also increase. If that happens, I will be very disappointed UNLESS there are noticeable improvements.

Very interesting. We've been lucky, I guess, in that we've rarely had housekeeping issues. But I've heard the horror stories and held my breath. So glad this is happening.

Right, unless there are noticeable improvements.

I haven't had any real problems. Our last stay, at the Floridian, was perfect. But there were a couple of items during our previous stay. Nothing major, just spending a little more time cleaning up.

I am not sure how much the cost would have to go up? To me its all about service level.....the cleaners need to spend the appropriate amount of time, but if the system is more streamlined and efficient, and there is more staff, then the cost would not necessarily go up, because the hours it takes per room(s) should not increase. That would also make it better if for example, there are sick days, and unexpected absences from the staff. Right now, if that happens, they probalby rush to clean rooms, because they get behind. If there are more staff available, then maybe not so much.

At the end of the day, it is service level and attention to detail that matters and i am not sure that necessarily has to mean increased costs.

When my daughter was on the college program she had 16 rooms each day to clean and usually could not start until 11:00 when most people checked out. She was supposed to be done by 4 and depending on how many rooms were checkouts or how many were just daily service she had many days that were practically impossible to do the job the way it should be done. She lost 20 lbs that summer from not having time to eat lunch and so exhausted she would go directly to bed when her shift ended. The system wasn't working well then so hopefully things will be improved.

I have had a situation where I checked into a room to find everything in order except for used towels and soap in the shower. My guess is that the room had been cleaned and inspected and the previous occupant decided to take a shower afterwords.

Why did she have to wait to 11 when a lot of people get up early to head to the parks? 16 is a lot. But the more rooms you have the more tips you get.

I hope they do something to encourage people to indicate when they leave early. It would be easy to call (I do) or leave a hang-tag on the door so they can get started in those rooms and not disturb the people who are not out yet.

Wow...why would anyone go back after they've checked out? I wouldn't even think of doing that let alone take a shower knowing it's been clean. Wow.

Housekeepers are required to complete their section, many of the rooms are just trash and towels. Per a Disney and union agreement, housekeeping is not a tipped position, they get paid more hourly plus if they complete their section, they get to go home early with pay. This is one of the reasons why the rooms don't get the attention that they need.

My guess. Went to the parks after checkout time and wanted to shower before leaving on a later flight or such. Pretty boorish behavior if true.

Here is the question, how did they get back into the room? Would their magic bands even work?

Sounds more like someone forgot to clean the shower, and no one checked the shower.

This was before Magic Bands. It's possible if the guests didn't actually check out with the front desk and the keys had yet to be deactivated. There was also a used towel left out in the room itself.

This is about 10 yrs ago, but we had a late checkout at POP. I pack up everything in my room, not sure what my DD's room was like, and left for the park. Came back around noon and the room was cleaned. I felt like I was being intrusive in someone else's room. I didn't even want to sit on the bed.

I wasn't checked out. Why would they clean the rooms at that point?
