Housekeeping/Do not Disturb

We sometimes like to either nap or go to the pool in the afternoon, but find it awkward if the housekeeper hasn't been there yet. If you put a do not disturb sign on your door will you get new towels, soap, and shampoo? We are staying at ASMo and have never done this before. We always ask for early morning housekeeping but sometimes our request isn't honored.

We forgot to take the Do Not Disturb off the door one day during our trip last week. Housekeeping called the room around 3:30 and left a message, asking if we still wanted service that day. We called them when we got to the room, and they did send someone up. But if your question is...will they leave towels and toiletries outside your door if you have the DND sign...the answer is no.

I bring my own foam door hanger, like what vacation Bible schools use. I write "Towels and Toiletries, Please". Mousekeeping just leaves them in a plastic bag outside our door. Works every time.

thats the point of the do not disturb sign.
they will not enter your room.
you'd have to call housekeeping and ask for new towels and soap.

Yep. This has been our experience at BC, BLT and WL. Sometimes it's just a basket with the extra towels, soaps, etc.

We prefer not to have our room cleaned daily so leave the sign up for several days in a row. We typically call housekeeping and let them know we won't need service as well. Even when we tell them we won't need extra towels, etc., we still get the bag/basket anyway.

I'm one of the people who keeps the sign hanging for pretty much the duration of my trip. It doesn't matter where I am, I would just rather keep hotel maid services out of my room. If I ever need extras then I will call housekeeping.

I use the Do not disturb sign on my solo trips and I've never had towels/shampoo ect. left outside the door.
I have had housekeeping call me and ask if I meant to leave the sign out and if there is anything I needed.

I've stayed at BWI, POP, POFQ, POR lots of times, CR, and AKL solo.

Part of what I like about a full service hotel is having fresh towels and my bed made for me! But to the OP, what I would do is to call housekeeping when you're leaving again in the afternoon/evening (if the room hadn't been serviced) and let them know you would like service then. If we get a late start one day, I'd leave the DND sign out so they won't bother while we're dressing or whatnot, then call to let them know when we're leaving that we do want service.

We've only used the DND sign in the morning when we are getting ready to leave. In my experience, housekeeping will by-pass your room and not return later.

My last trip (10 nights, ASMo) I left the DND sign on most of the time. I was traveling solo, and didn't need someone servicing the room every day.

Day 1: Bag of towels, wash cloths, toiletries, etc. hung on the outside of my door.

Day 2: Another bag left hanging on my door.

At this point I have twelve sets of towels and wash cloths -for one person. I am being overrun! I call housekeeping and tell them I don't need anything else and to please stop leaving them. I am told they will cancel housekeeping until I call them back.

About half way through the trip I call to have the room serviced the next day. I take the DND sign off the door. Room serviced as I requested. That evening I replace the DND on the door.

Next day : Bag of towels, wash cloths, toiletries, etc. hung on the outside of my door.

I call housekeeping again. I tell them I don't need any more bags left on my door. I have too many towels! Somehow that message never got relayed, as they left bags every day after that until I checked out.

So in my experience, if you leave the DND sign on your door, they won't enter, and will leave a bag of towels and toiletries. That's what I've read here from many people too. I would think if they didn't leave a bag it is the exception rather than the rule.

Perhaps they "caught wind" of your DIS Boards user name....

P.S. That's been our experience too (receiving towels/toiletries with the DND sign left out).... Of course, they could have just "caught wind" of us after a day at the parks...
