I've been reading a lot lately about the connections between house clutter and being over weight. With the spring here it is time for me to change my life. I ordered a bunch of weight loss shakes from QVC and they will be here in a few days. Before they arrive I am going to attack a few rooms in my house that have a huge amount of clutter. With yard sale season just around the corner, it is time for me to get through the clutter, get organized, get ready to sell my junk, and get ready to lose my weight. Getting rid of that clutter can also help fund our next trip to Disney:cool1:
Anyone want to joing me??

Thanks!!!

count me in..... both my house and me can stand to loose a few pounds

Nice to have you NJCarita!!!!
I did a good general cleaning so far. But, now I have to focus on our office. It has become the general dumping station for everything. It is to the point I really have no place to work any more during the day. So, hopefully, I can get this straightened out today!

Count me in!!! I always thought there might be a connection between these two things, and now I'm positive I have something similar. The only hurdle I have is the fact that I still live at home, and there is not much I can do about a lot of the clutter. But I do what I can! My room is clean (except for a few clothes I need to hang up and what-not!) and I'm working on parts of the rest of the house (kitchen, dining room, hallways, etc.)

Let me know how the office cleaning goes!! Good luck!! :)

So glad to have you here with us!!! I think even if you can just control your personal space (like even if all you can control is how clean your purse is) it will make you feel better!! And, think of all of the calories you burn when you clean :goodvibes Thanks for joining in! Let us know how is goes for you!!

How interesting! I am losing weight and my house is getting cleaner. We have been working on redoing the playroom for a month. It only needs touch up paint and it will be done. It the same period of time I have lost almost 10 pounds.

That is so great!! I am sure doing all of that will really help get you ready for the weight loss!! And, keeping up with the cleaning helps too:cool1:

There is a book written by the guy that was one of hosts of that show "Clean Sweep" on TLC that is all about the link between being overweight and having a cluttered home. And my Mom recently read a personal trainer's advice that if you are looking for motivation to exercise, cleaning and decluttering your home is a great way to do it...the idea is that our bodies are like a home...and when you make your actual home function better, "lose weight", and generally LOOK better...the idea translates to ourselves...as in, WE could function better, lose weight, and look better too.

I'm in...I've been in this process since the summer...we moved toward the end of summer, so I am decluttering as I unpack/organize the house...and I started exercising and generally making better choices when the school year started...doing great so far...finally getting geared up for a garage sale with the spring weather!

One other tidbit...in SELF magazine I read about the mind/body connection...the report was a study was done on housekeepers for a major hotel chain...they educated the housekeepers as to how doing the requirements of their job satisfied their daily requirement for exercise...the control group had no education...and the result was that the educated group, while making no other changes, LOST WEIGHT...the conclusion was to have an EXPECTATION of associated with your physical activity...the body will respond to your expectation...so as everyone cleans, organizes, and de-clutters, everyone should understand that this is REAL physical activity and expect your body to respond.

You just gave us all such great information -Thank You!!! Yesterday I got about a quarter of the way through our home office. It brought up other ideas of how we could reorganize the house to be more functional and attractive.
I love the idea that your body will respond to your expectations. I have never really let myself have expectations regarding how my body responds to exercise. But, today I am going to start. TX Rabbit-thanks for all that great info and WELCOME!!! Glad to have you here!!!!!!:thumbsup2

How is everyone else doing today????:cheer2:

Have an amazing day!:cool1:

Our house is 90 years old, so there's always something that needs to be done! We had really awful storms last night so today I picked up sticks for over an hour, then took a run around the neighborhood to survey the damage. I took the dog on one loop, then went by myself. I did about 2.5 miles. Next up is the living room I think. Either that or the dining room.

I'll have to check out that Clean Sweep book. Maybe the library has it. Thanks for the suggestion :D

Wow, you are being so super productive today:banana: Good for you!!!
I am battling exhaustion today. I guess I don't sleep great at night and every day around this time I just feel desperate for a nap. But, today I am getting the office cleaning done and drinking lots of coffee to stay away-lol

Thanks for checking in haley Knits!! BTW- I love your kids names!!!

Thank you! Their full names are Bridget Graceanne and Bode Grant. Can you tell dh likes to ski ;)

Sorry that you are tired. Can you try jogging in place or a few jumping jacks? That usually peps me up and gets me moving. I can't drink more than one cup of coffee per day due to my medication, so I have to find other ways to stay up.

You can also turn off the tv and turn on your favorite music. I love to dance while I clean. The bonus is my kids think it is hilarious :rotfl2:

Haleyknits-good idea about turning the music on. I sometimes do that but hadn't thought about it today. I have a swing/big band cd I put in while cleaning sometimes. I don't have kids but my dogs think it is hilarious too:laughing: Have a great rest of your day!!

I totally agree with HaleyKnits, I listen to music all the time when I'm trying to get something done and it really helps accomplish everything. And since I don't have any kids and I live at home still, I don't care how foolish I look! :rotfl:

I also figured out I have a different outlook on going to the gym if I do simple household chores first, like loading the dishwasher or taking out the trash. It seems so simple, but I think to myself "Well, I did that, I can get on an elliptical for 30 minutes!" It must be that mind-body connection! So today I cleared off the kitchen table to scrapbook my last trip and make autograph books for my next trip, and then headed out to the gym!

Alice, how funny is that about your dogs! I can picture it now, my dog used to do that whenever I would put music on too!

I have started wearing a pedometer all day long. You would be shocked at how doing house work will make the steps add up! I get some cleaning done and realize that I walked a mile or two in the house. It is a great reward:goodvibes

Have a great day everyone!!!

Oh yes. I have a fitbit and I was shocked at how many steps I can add up when I'm moving. I was also surprised at how little I have when I don't do anything :sad2:

I know, it can be a shock either way you go. But it can add up really quick too. One thing that sounds silly but I can only imagine would work is if you wear wrist and ankle weights when you do housework. It creates resistance and all that, and adds a little oomph of weight training as well! :)

I have serious motivation to "lighten the load" around the house...starting tomorrow...I did my Zumba instructor training today and now I can teach Zumba classes...there is a bit of expense involved in getting started and I'm hoping to offset some of the initial expenses with some sales of excess around the house...

Planning a garage sale...maybe some craigslist listings...books, etc. to Half Price...if I do a garage sale, I'm hoping to only have to get ready for one big one...they are a lot of work...totally wanting to start tomorrow but not sure about my energy level...training was 8 hours today...it was intense...I wore my HRM...I burned 2765 calories  ...this SHOULD compensate for all the recent wine and beer indulgences :rolleyes1 but because of that, I'm not expecting any big change other than some serious soreness tomorrow.
