Hotwire Savings Club Questions?

The GCs are just like the ones you purchase in the stores, with no expiration dates. However, some of them do include a clause similar to this - To cover administrative costs, a $2 per month dormant account fee will be deducted from the balance after 24 months of non-use. This is from the Toys R Us card, and it is included on GC you purchase at their store also.

FWIW, Connecticut just passed a law making this illegal. Any gift cards purchased after Aug 15th (maybe 13th) cannont have non-use fees attached to them, even if they say it on the card. I think they can have the card expire after 3 years or so.

I joined in mid April, and made 8 purchases from them, including meal vouchers and GCs from Kmart, Target, Toys R Us, Babies R Us (the TRU & BRU cards are the same & can be used at any R Us store), Sam Goody, and Chuck E. Cheese's. I received every purchase in less than a week, every credit was applied properly, and I received the $10 rebate very quickly. I'm going to cancel for now, but plan to re-join next year for more Target cards.

So even if you are past the 30 day free trial, can you cancel at any time?

How much and how do you pay for this monthly?

Can the gift cards be used by anyone...could I purchase one, for example, for a restaurant and give it to someone as a gift that they can use same as cash...or can it only be used by the member?

Thanks!

I can answer a couple of your questions. These answers are all just from memory of what I have read, so please, someone correct me if I am wrong. I have my paperwork at home and if I notice anything that I mis-stated I will post and correct.

You can cancel at any time.

I believe monthly dues are $7.95.

When you register you give a credit card number and that card is where the monthly dues are taken from.

I remember reading something about being able to 'share' your membership with people in your household, but I will have to go re-read it because I can't remember exactly how it was worded. Maybe someone who has ordered the gift cards will know if they come with your name or account number on them or some other distinguishing feature.

We are bringing my 14 year old's friend to DW in November. Her mother was able to buy her tickets on my membership with her credit card. They were sent to my house and they didn't deny the transaction.

I understand the $5.00 credit for the gift cards, but can someone explain how to get a rebate on the meal vouchers? And what kind of rebate do you get?

When I ordered my meal vouchers I received a confirmation page. Once you have this confirmation page you have to print it out and mail it to :

Hotwire Savings Club
c/o Hotwire.com
PO Box 241720
Omaha, NE 68124-9623

Make sure the printout is a confirmation of your order and includes your name, your address, and your membership number. The refund I'm receiving is $10. I don't know if this is only for the meal vouchers, or if it was just a short term offer they were doing. If you have questions that 'we' can't thoroughly answer, here is the 877 number to call. I called and talked to a guy named Theo and he was VERY helpful!

Thanks for the QUICK reply! I joined yesterday, ordered a bunch of cert (target, barnes & noble, penneys, etc) and the screen showed that I would get a $5 credit for these store certs -- but didn't show anything for the 3 quick and casual vouchers I ordered.

I'll try calling them tomorrow during business hours. Thanks again!

question about the movie tickets

Is there an expiration date? If so how long do you usually get to use them?

You do not actually get a rebate for the meal vouchers (except the $10 rebate for first use, if that is all you ordered.) The savings for the meal vouchers comes when you use the voucher to buy food that costs more than you paid for the voucher. For example, the VK Lunch vouchers cost $31, but at many places you can order food that costs much more than $31.

I just received my $10 rebate today for my initial purchase. It is not credited to your CC that you used, it is mailed to you as a check. Just wanted everyone that had been asking to know :)

How long did it take from your first order to receive your $10 check? I ordered a bunch of stuff well over a month ago, sent in my confirmation letter, etc. -- hmm, actually 2 months ago -- Can't recall seeing a check yet!

I will say, however, that I have been very satisfied thus ar with HW. We've bought PHP, vouchers, gift cards.... we bought about $200 worth of Target cards to use at the SuperTarget in Orlando and get our groceries! Nothing like 20% off on food. Wish HW had Wal-Mart too. Oh well. We are staying in the club at least until closer to xmas. Figure those gift cards will come in handy as shopping season nears! I've bought some, but I can only do so much advance shopping, especially with our big vacation to WDW looming so near and also back to school supplies to be bought, school tuitions due, etc! Only so much cash to spread around....

I used cards from Kmart and Target to get the kids school supplies. Our school has a program where you can buy the supplies through them and they are waiting in the classrooms on the first day of school. But, they are expensive. I spent less on two kids combined than what one of the school packs would have cost! Especially with the HW discount. I'm also ordering a Blockbuster gc for my nephew's birthday. HW is great!

It took almost exactly a month because I bought my meal vouchers for Disney and then waited the 30 days (just in case I needed more) and then cancelled on the day before the last day of my free trial. I got the $10 check in the mail that same day.

I would be joining for only one month and then quitting. What day of the month would be the best to join so I can get my rebate check back within the month, hopefully!

I joined in the middle of the month thinking that if they only cut their checks at certain times during the month I would be in good shape. I thought I had seen someone post on here that they do it at the beginning of each month, but I'm not positive. I joined around the 18-19 of last month and I got my check from them earlier this week.

Dunno if it was answered but to the person who asked how long the movie tix last the answer is a year.

So far I've also been satisfied with HWSC. We've purchased WDW tix, Q&C vouchers, GCs for Blockbuster, Target, Outback and some other stuff. The GCs come in handy for teacher's gifts especially.
