Hotwire.com question re: in-terminal cars...

I am having the hardest time finding a good rate for September 22-29. I am thinking about using hotwire.com because they seem to have great rates.

My concern is that I will be stuck with an off terminal company rather than one in-terminal. They only use "major" rental companies so I am not worried about getting some generic rental company.

What are your thoughts/experiences with Hotwire.com?

Thanks, Ken

Since Hotwire and Priceline both use the "major" car rentals you could wind up off site. The off site options would be Alamo or Hertz. I have not used Alamo at Orlando, but have heard lots of horror stories about them. The Hertz shuttle is very quick, runs pretty much non stop and I have never had a problem at their rental counters.

You might go over to www.biddingfortravel.com and read what people are getting on priceline. It would probably give you an idea of what rental car companies are participating in Orlando.

We've used both Hotwire and Priceline for rental cars in Orlando. We've had some in-terminal rentals and both offsites, Hertz and Alamo. The only bad experience we had with Alamo was during President's Week (which I now know is one of the BUSIEST times at WDW) when we had to wait about an hour. Two other trips with Alamo were just fine, less than a 15 min. wait. The cost difference was worth it (even with the one hour wait) compared to booking the reservation myself so I was prepared to wait if that was necessary. Most times it wasn't but it wouldn't have been a "biggie" if it was.

Several years ago I had a horrific (2 hour) wait at Alamo and nearly missed my flight. I had dropped my family off at the curb and checked the bags and then drove to Alamo to return the car and catch a bus back (This is always easier than schlepping kids and luggage on the busses, etc.). I forget what the issue was but I ended up barely making the flight and finding my family before we got on. I've rented from Alamo for years and have only had problems in 2 locations: Orlanda and las Vegas. In LV, the line was so long, it went outside -- into the 110 degree heat. One person actually passed out while in line and I sent my family in a cab to the hotel while I waited for the 2!!! people working there to take care of me.

Good luck.

I had no problems at all and breezed right thru. (This was last year) This year the rates don't seem as good, so I am searching around. It was really nice because it was right in the terminal.
