As the title suggests my husband’s Hotmail is getting slammed with spam email the last few weeks. It is an account that he has used a long time and if he just gets rid of it there is work to do as he had a lot of stuff thru this account. Can’t find much online at how to stop this. He can’t block every sender as it changes constantly. Any ideas?

I get a lot too.
I've had a hotmail email account for many, many years.
Almost all of it goes right to the junk file.....very few goes into the "real" mail.
I probably get 50 a day in the junk file.
I tried unsubscribing for awhile......but they still kept coming,
Now I just let them sit in there and they get deleted eventually.

I have my account set for only safe senders to go into my hotmail account. Something got breached last night--woke up to 60 emails in my inbox, all spam. In the last 2 hours, over 40 more.

My work browsers don't allow me to go into hotmail, so I have to boot up my personal laptop (rarely used) to see what settings got broken. Sigh.

I had this happen to my Hotmail account also, about 6 weeks ago. Just flooded with junk emails, more so than usual, and most were landing in the inbox and not the junk folder. I’ve had the account for over 10 years. What I did was send each one of them to my junk folder and reported them all as phishing. They stopped after about a week.

I’ll mention this to my dh. There are so many of them to do that to though. Sounds like he will have to maybe give up on this email if it keeps up.

This is what you want to do.

I was took the time to unsubscribe to all the junk mail I was receiving. Yes, the ones I unsubscribed to stopped, but I started to get even more replacing them. UGH!

Mine had been getting more than usual and yup, I woke up to a ton last night too! I just delete them, over and over.

I've had my Hotmail email for over 20 years. The amount of spam I've been getting hasn't changed, but the type of spam has. I've been getting random invoices for things I haven't bought. Many mention Pay Pal in some way. My Hotmail email is NOT my Pay Pal address. I don't dare open them in case they contain viruses. This has been going on for months. Maybe close to a year. At first I tried marking them as spam, but that did nothing to stop them.

More recently the emails have changed to be addressed to my dad. My Hotmail has always been mine and mine alone. My dad never used it. Plus my dad died in 2014. If my dad is shopping and sending me the invoice, I have bigger problems than junk mail.

I just selected each email at once in my inbox, moved them to the Junk folder, then selected all in junk and reported them as phishing. I did this for a few days and eventually they mostly stopped.

I've had my Hotmail account for a very long time-I acquired it to use for when I had to put an email address in somewhere I didn't trust not to sell my info, so it's full of spam all the time anyway. I go in and check it every few days and empty it out. This way my 'real' email is not affected. However, I checked it this morning and I had 317 new emails in my Inbox and not the Junk Email folder, which was odd. Some claimed to be from Paypal and at first glance looked legit. Some were obvious phishing attempts, and most were the usual spammy things. I reported the phishing ones, and deleted the rest.

I had the same problem today -

Sometimes this might mean the account has been compromised. They use the account to reset passwords on accounts where this email is attached.

The flood of spam is to reduce the likelihood that the person notices this is what is happening as the password reset emails get quickly buried by the onslaught of SPAM.

I would have your husband change his account password just in case.

I had the same issue last night into earlier today and it has resolved. My Hotmail account is my main e-mail and I gave the filters set so that almost everything goes to junk (even occasionally something I want).

Me too. Idk what happened, but over the last week it's been bombarded.

Same! I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I feared that because I unsubscribed to a piece of spam mail, ultimately it fed my email address to other spammers. These types of unsubscribes demand you enter your email to do so, unlike other sites.

For me it happened just over the weekend, a huge block of spam. Despite different companies attached to each one, they all had to come from the same source. I tried the "unsubscribe" link on some, without entering my email and completing the unsubscribing. Each page was the same.

I threw them all in the junk folder and blocked all the senders.
