Hello everyone, several people from my area (Fredericton) have said that Best Western Lakeside in Kissimmee is a great hotel with good rates. I took a chance and booked it. The rates were just 59.00 Canadian and the place has shuttle service, :woohoo: 3 heated pools, kids eat free, mini golf, arcades and restaurants on the premises. Has anyone been to this hotel? Was it good? The price is just too good......

If you are planning to rent a car and depending on when you are going, rates can be as low as $69 per night for a 3 bedroom condo. Check out Elite Homes 5505 West Irlo Bronson Hwy. Kissimmee. They have several condos and homes near Disney. They have a special for April, May - $10 off their rates.

In April 2004 we stayed at Windsor Palms for $69 per night for a 3 bedroom condo. We ate breakfast at the condo, made lunches for when we went to the Disney parks - when we were hungry, we would just pick a shady spot and eat our lunch, no waiting in lines etc. We ate out for dinner most nights. It was great because you did not have to eat out every meal ... junk food is hard on little stomachs. We saved money too!

If you don't have a car, this won't work for you as they don't have shuttles.

...and welcome to the Dis:):)

Don't forget to stop by the Orlando Hotels and Attractions Board as well:) Lots of great advice and opinions on off-site hotels...(and sorry for the shameless plug;);) )

Great rate!!

Howdy neighbor!!!!
I live in Beaverdam too!!!! And we were in Disney just this past January '06. It was great!
We stayed on site at Pop Century. We're going back to Florida in Jan '07, and are staying off-site this time. My recommendation is get a place with a kitchen. You'll get tired of eating out all the time, and it can get hard on the tummy...not to mention your wallet. ;)

Sounds like you got a great deal on the hotel you have booked.
I agree with one of the other posters...a vehicle is a must have. We were so glad we drove down and had the use of our vehicle. :moped:

This is a great board to answer your questions.

I too was in Orlando in January ! We went Dec 24-Jan8. I found that time of the year very busy. It was too hard on my son. He got sick coming home and landed in hospital for a few days. We are going back Oct 25- Nov 8th, hoping for a slower pace for my son. We want to go Mickey's NoT So Scary Halloween Party.

I don't like to drive in Florida, so we use shuttles. Saves my nerves!

A friend at work just stayed there over March break and really enjoyed it. I think she went to Mk and Sea world using the shuttle.

Charleyann: Where did you book the BW Lakeside from (website? agent?) to get that price? Also, does anyone know how much it costs to get to BW Lakeside from the airport by taxi?

I booked with Maritime Travel. The hotel can arrange airport transfer for $18 one way. Can also book airport transfer for Maritime Travel for about the same amount. Book early. The agents told me the rooms go quick as they only have so many . Just found out they even have a Cabana Hut at the pool to order drinks and light meals/ snacks....

The shuttle even goes to all major theme parks and outlet malls! Gosh, I hate using a car in Florida. The hotel is located within walking distance to many restaurants and shops to....getting better already! Hope it is as good as it sound and as good as it looks!

I should have mentioned that I'm organizing a class trip for 25 (18 kids and 7 adult chaperones), so I'm going to need 6 or 7 rooms! I might be the one who snatches them all, if there are still rooms left :)

I was drawn to the free shuttle service, too...but if the shuttles are mini-vans, then I wonder how that's going to work...also I'm leaning toward staying away from the I-Drive area so the kids are not too tempted to go out and have a nightlife.

Best western caters to groups of students. Just read that on their website. They have connecting rooms too. The shuttles are big bus. Like grey hounds! I'm sure there will be plenty of rooms....

Where are you from? What grade do you teach? I use to teach, but then I had my son and that was that!

On Charleyann's recommendation, I checked out the hotel's website. I noticed that they are "student friendly", but I also read that groups of more than 10 are not allowed to take the theme park shuttle?!

By the way I teach grade 9 on a reserve near Thunderbay. These kids don't get out much, so going to Orlando is an extremely huge deal for them.

Hi Charley,
You probably live right next to me.... :lmao: If so, Silly dog sends his hello. paw:
We found January to be busy at Disney too!
I'm sorry to hear your son was ill. I got sick while I was at Disney. Lucky me got to visit the medical side of Orlando. We had medical insurance but there is a lot of red tape to getting reimbursed. Oh well, hopefully I'll be better prepared this time.
Halloween sounds like a fun time to go. :hmghost:
I agree...driving in Florida can be hectic. But I'm only the co-pilot. ;)
Later...

You live next door to me? Your dogs name is? Hunter or Maggie? LOL. Jacob has cystic fibrosis. That is why he gets sick. He got to swim with Begula whales compliments of Seaworld. Your suppose to be 14 years...but because he has a life threatening illness, they let him go at his age and gave it to him as a wish!

We did too many things. 7 days Disney, 2 days universal studios and seaworld in only 10 days. Tired him out. So this fall, we'll take things quieter and slower with splenty of days to rest! He will swim with dolphins this time

PS...i live on load Road
