Hotels near Universal Studios

I have a friend going to US. Any hotel recommendations? I always just stay by Disneyland..

What kind of budget? Are they planning more than Universal? How many people & aprx ages?

2 adults and a 3 year old. They are also doing Disneyland for 2 days and are staying at Howard Johnson's- so probably something along that line as far as budget. They will have a rental car.

The Garland is the one I recommend.

With a car, the Garland is a very nice hotel and very quiet because it is in the San Fernando Valley in North Hollywood.

If they want something where they can leave the car parked and walk around Hollywood, the Magic Castle Hotel, Orchid Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Best Western Plus Hollywood Hills Hotel are all very nice.
