We're going to UMass Boston and we need a place to stay. I have nooo idea about anything concerning Boston. Where can we stay thats safe, clean and nice. Don't care about price, I rather we stay in a good place. I heard the hotels in Dorchester weren't so good, so I was looking into Quincy. But, like I said I have no idea. Hopefully, there's a hotel around 10-15 min. away. Can anyone help. TIA... I need to make these ressies quick...

Visit Tripadvisor.com and go to Boston.
You'll find the Boston Forum on the left side of the page.
Ask your question there and I'll bet you'll get several responses.
We always stay at the Gryphon House near Kenmore Square. It's one of Boston's better Bn'B's. :)

I would stay in downtown Boston and then take the subway out to UMass-Boston. It is very easy to do that and it is a short subway ride. Hotels that I have stayed at and would recommend are: Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Marriott Copley Square, Sheraton Boston. If you are willing to stay further out but in a very nice place that generally has pretty good rates, I would recommend the Courtyard by Marriott in Brookline (It is called the Courtyard Boston Brookline, but it is right near the subway line/trolley line in Brookline which is adjacent to Boston and has Boston public transportation). I stayed there for a full week last December and commuted to the Prudential Center area of Boston every day. It was a very safe and very interesting area in which to stay.

that's funny. my friend lives right down the street from the marriott in brookline. it's a wonderful neighborhood! she loves it and we love going to visit her there. it's a super short trip into the center of boston (about 15 min as long as you can manuver the t, which is much easier than the nyc subway, just stay away from the orange line).

I'd vote for the Seaport Hotel in South Boston. It's about a 5 min drive to UMass Boston, and can avoid the Southeast Expressway. It's beautiful, has a great restaurant. Located on the new Silver Line in case you don't have a car to get around.

As far as Dorchester goes, the Doubletree Hotel is fairly new, and decent. It's within walking distance and not as scary as others nearby.

I don't know how long you will be in Boston or why you need to be at UMass/Boston but I would suggest either the Marriot Copley Place or the Westin Copley Place. Both of these hotels are anchors for the Copley Place Mall and are also connected to the Pru Shops. You also have accessiblity to the T and can go over to South Boston.

Here are the directions to the Kennedy Museum and UMass is right near it and they share the same T stop.

Transportation
The Library and Museum is easily accessed by public transportation. Take the MBTA Rapid Transit, Red Line (any red line train) to JFK/UMASS Station. There is a free shuttle bus to the Library every 20 minutes beginning at 8:00 a.m. and running until Museum closing. Please take the buses marked ‘JFK.’

There are also buses for the UMass campus but I am not sure of their hours of operation. I would imagine they run during week days but I am not sure exactly about the weekend.

Have Fun in Boston!!!

My DH & I and 2 Sis' all stayed at the Marriott Copley Plaza this past Christmas season as we had tickets to the WANG for "White Christmas"! We decided to make a whole weekend of it and that hotel was AWESOME! The restaurants are lovely and it is ATTACHED to a MALL. We had a BLAST! So much to see and do!!! :thumbsup2 for the Marriott Copley. Remember this is the one on HUNTINGTON AVE., as there are 2 Boston Marriotts. :sunny:

Thanks for all the replies. The Marriott Copely sounds nice and so do the others mentioned. I will look into these. Someone had mentioned to my dd about a round shaped hotel. I don't know the name or anything about it, maybe someone here does. We're going up at the end of March for the new student registration. We'll also be looking into either studio or 1 bedroom apts. for her. If anyone has any suggestions about good neighborhoods in or near UMass, please let me know. We'd like to get her a small apt in a very safe, clean place, but, again we are clueless. UMass doesn't have dorms. We don't want to spend more then 800.per month, so if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, we would really appreciate it and would put our minds at ease alittle. Thanks so much for all the reply's. Its been very helpful to me...
