Planning a short (3-4 day) trip with 2 couples in mid 20's. There seems to be a lot of hotels within 15-20 miles anyone have any advice on the best for under $100 night (tue-fri stay)

There aren't any really convenient hotels near 6 flags.

Why not look into a hotel near the shore and get in a day or two on the boardwalk and beach along with 6 flags? Great Adventure is really a one day park, unless of course you're coaster fanatics and want to go on the same rides over and over :goodvibes .

We were planning on 1 1/2 days at park. 1/2 day safari.

And yes- 2 of the people going are HUGE coaster fans

The safari is about an hour at most, maybe, maybe 1.5 hours if you drive very slowly and it's very crowded, but I think that would be a big stretch. You stay in your car, not allowed out, and you just keep driving through (no stopping really) so it doesn't take very long. We've gone to Great Adventure, gotten lunch, taken it into the car, driven through the safari, then back to Great Adventure all within about 45 minutes. With the lines though, you could easily make 1.5 days out of Great Adventure. Are you going to go to the water park too? If so that would be about a day's worth of stuff. Honestly though, I can't think of any hotels right in that area, but my suggestion would be to look around the New Brunswick area which is around a 20-30 minute drive and full of hotels.

My husband wanted me to add that the monkeys in the safari can rip stuff off of your car. So if you want to avoid that, do the monkey bypass route.

Thanks for the monkey tip!

We are going in May, so I doubt it will be warm enough for the waterpark. Have you heard any positives/negatives about hotels in New Brunswick?

I would NOT look in New Brunswick for a hotel. NB would be exit 9 on the NJ Turnpike. NB would still be another 5-10 mins. after getting off the NJTP depending on traffic. Great Adventure is exit 7A.

http://www.sixflagslodging.com/ Here is a page with 2005 Lodging Partners of Great Adventure. I would say the ones in Freehold are the closest.

Hmm, based on that website, I'd go with one of the hotels in Toms River. The ocean & Seaside Heights boardwalk is just across the causeway :sunny: .

In East Brunwick the Hilton is very nice, Just hop on the turnpike and get off at exit 8A for Great Adventure, it is a drive after that. A little closer to the 8A exit which you will use for Great Adventure is the Holiday Inn in Jamesburg. That is acceptable too. We usually stay at either one of those.

I should have added that the reason I suggested the New Brunswick area (and I agree that the Hilton in E. Brunswick is nice) is that there is a lot of stuff in the area for young people to do since Rutgers is there. Lots of good local and chain restaurants that aren't too pricey and the drive isn't bad. Depending on where in Freehold the drive is just as long and it's more of a residential area. Still a good location for Great Adventure, but less to do in the surrounding area after you get back from the park.

We are not too concerned with anything other than the park and maybe a place to eat. Although we are young, we will be going all out from open to close at the park, so we won't have any energy left at night.

Both the Ramada Inn and Hampton Inn in Bordentown seem to be nice and fairly inexpensive. As well as a 25 minute (mapquest) drive. Any advice on these two?

Whenever we've stayed over to be near Great Adventure, we stayed in Tinton Falls.

GA is on I-195, which is accessed from either the NJ Turnpike Exit 7A or the Garden State Parkway Exit 98. Tinton Falls is Exit 105 of the Parkway, so it's only 6 miles north of where you get on the Parkway from I-195. GA is about 20 minutes on I-195.

There are four nice hotels just off GSP Exit 105. The nicest is a Sunrise Suites by Wyndam. It has an indoor pool and hot tub and serves a complimentary hot breakfast. The rooms are gigantic and very nice; it's expensive, but you could share a suite.

There is a Red Roof Inn to one side of it (it's a Red Roof, what else do I need to say?), and a nice Holiday Inn on the other side. Just up the road is a lovely Courtyard by Marriott.

A shopping commons is across the street from the hotels. It has a Redhead's restaurant, which I guess is a chain, and it's pretty good. There is an Applebee's as well.

We've stayed in this area often through the years since it is also close to Sandy Hook, a huge state beach area. It's also close to the Seven Presidents Beach in Long Branch and Monmouth Racetrack. I'd say it's about 25 minutes to/from GA, all highway.
