hotels in vegas

We are planing on a trip to California next year and as part of it we will be visiting vegas for a few nights can anyone tell us what hotels are most suitable for our kids they will be 17 and 10 when we go

We stayed at the Luxor which was lovely. I think that there is something special about all the hotels really, so it doesn't matter too much which ones on the main strip that you choose. Your children should enjoy any of them. The Bellagio may be less child friendly than others because it's a bit more upscale, but even there children would not be unwelcome.

The hotels in Vegas look like a theme park themselves

We stayed at the Mirage, which has a really good position, and there is a lot to do in and around the hotel - pools, slides, dolphin and tiger habitats....It's not overly expensive either, and it's on the north end of the Strip, easy walking all the way down to the Luxor, but still quieter.

I would say as long as you somewhere along the Strip, you won't go far wrong, but imho, the Stratosphere and the hotels out with that are too far out of town.

Remember that most of the hotels are open to all (apart from the pool areas) so if there is a particular attraction you are interested in eg rollercoaster at New York New York, you don't need to stay at that hotel.

A lot of the hotels run special deals which you can sign up to on their websites - I'm getting ones for the Venetian now which are $149 / night, which is amazing for a hotel of that standard. I would say, sign up for them all, and see where the best deals are.

Also, be wary that if there is a really big convention going on - and there often is - book early because a lot of the hotels sell out quickly.

No, but the Flamingo is much more central - Mandalay Bay is south strip, near airport. We did go there - it's beautiful but not sure much for your kids??

Vegas isn't that child friendly. They are going away from the family look that they had 10 years ago. Most of the casinos have adult shows.

Monte-Carlo is probably the nicest kid friendly hotel on the strip. They have a small lazy river and wave pool. Fast food in the food court. Good location.

Get on the email list for the hotels. The hotels are MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE on F-S nights, holidays and when large conventions are in town. Generally you book 2-3 months in advance.

We stayed in both MGM Grand and Treasure Island when we went in 1999 and my daughter was 6. We used the kids club at MGM grand which was great as it meant we could at least walk in the hotel!!! However the club is only up to 12 year olds.

We were going to go back next year and go to Disneyland with our DVC points but have really been put off by the negative posts on Las Vegas boards similar to this. Apparently Las Vegas has got a lot seedier since we were there.

You just cannot walk in the hotel lobby and stop. You have to keep going all the time as children (under 21 year olds) are now allowed near the fruit machines but the machines are everywhere. I could not even go down to the bar and order a drink with my daughter with me.

However there are still loads of things to do and really loved the star trek experience at the Hilton and I don't want to put you off.

We have decided to either go back on our own when our daughter is grown up or take her for her 21st birthday!!! We did not want to spend all night sitting in our hotel room.

We have recently returned from 5 nights at the Bellagio and one thing we noticed straight away was the lack of children. We have stayed at the Mirage too and it was pretty much the same. The only place we saw lots of children was at Circus Circus which seemed a more family friendly hotel and they have some very good rates too.

We have stayed at Bellagio, the Mirage and Caesars Palace and of those I would say that The Mirage is the most child friendly, the other two being quite adult. We did not see many children there at all, not even by the pool. I would think that somewhere like the luxor, circus circus or excalibur might be a good bet!

I wouldn't recommend the Circus Circus, even though it is the most child friendly... it is quite far away from the action.

I stayed at the Venetion and wouldn't say thats for childen either, its meant to be one of the best hotels around, though!

I would reccommend the Flamingo. Its dead centre and has a really great (but quite busy) pool area. IT has been voted the best pool oin vegas. Rates are quite good, from about $60 a night.

You could also try Ballys. It is next to Flamingo and it is joined to the Paris and shares its pool, but Ballys is much cheaper.

The Aladdin may be child friendlyish, but it is changing hands to Planet Hollywood and there has beeen construction lately.

One last tip. Try to plan your Vegas stay so that you are there during Sunday - Thursday nights. At the weekend the price goes up so high. I got an email from the stratosphere and the rates sun - thurs were about $35 a night, but about $70 or $80 fri and saturday nights.

Your 10 year old might enjoy the New York New York as it has a huge fun fair part with loads of carnival games. Plus the theaming is good too. I have also stayed at the Venetian (we somehow managed to get a free upgrade to a high roller suite - just DH and myself with a 10 piece marble dinig table, 2 jacuzzis and our own sauna!!) I wouldn't recommend that hotel for being child friendly though. If it was an all adult trip I would highly recommend it.

thanks for the advice we are planing on only doing 3 nights vegas so it wont be a bind on the kids still in planing stages we plan on doing a few days beach a few days disnyland hotel a couple nights a Knots berry hotel as well as vegas keep em comeing

don't know what month you're going but the Mandalay Bay has a wave pool and beach which in summer could keep children mightly entertained -(so long as MTV aren't there which would keep your 17 mightly entertained but might open the 10 year olds eyes a bit too much). Think Typhoon lagoon, lite - um, very lite! Other than that though the hotel itself isn't hugely child themed - it's my favourite when we have a car, but it's a bit too far down if you don't - but I hasten we don't have kids. Circus Circus is very family friendly - in fact, it's hard to get away from children, but it's fairly basic hotel and a bit far up. Treasure Island used to be okay with the pirate ship show but they've got a bit more adult now - lots of scantily clad women about! You might want to think about the MGM which has more 'non gaming' areas and a food court for cheap eating and is also close to New York, New York, the Excalibur. the M&M games arcade and the Luxor. Not stayed there myself but its always somewhere we visit. Oh, and if you are going in winter, and the pool is important to the kids check that your hotel one is open, a lot of them close the pools come winter.
