Hotels in NY

Hi All

Under four months to go, fantastic. It highly likely that we are going to fly out on 5th July and tag 3 or 4 nights on at the start in NY, before our 3 weeks at POR.

Has anyone got any hotel recomendations for NY, there is myself, the Boss, Beth 12, Ellie 10 (well actually 10 on the 6th) and Josh 5

The Radio City Apartments seem very popular with families, they're not cheap but are much more reasonable than 2 rooms in a hotel (which I think may be necessary in most cases for a family of 5) and they have kitchens I've booked it for our October trip, barring any better deals I find nearer the time (they have a 48 hour cancellation policy)

I stayed at the Millenium Hilton right at Ground Zero when I went. It was definitely one of, if not the, best hotels I've ever stayed in!

We got an excellent deal at the time but I think it's quite expensive normally. However, we found it was a good location and easy to get around, we even walked from here to Times Square one night and I can't remember how long it took but it at the time it wasn't that bad a walk.

Doubletree times square is a great hotel with a separate living room with a sleeper couch I also second the Millenium Hilton at ground zero its a beautiful hotel

We've stayed at the Renaissance Times Square (fabulous but pricey) the Roosevelt (very nice) and Hilton Garden Inn Times Square (our current favourite). It's a nice hotel and just a very short walk to Times Square. Their rates are really good if you book and pay in advance. You can get $159 a night for July which is very good for NYC

think there are some good deals to be got at the moment in NY
sometimes phoning the hotel direct gets the best price
we have stayed in the radiocity apts too
basic and clean and a great location
most hotels only sleep 4

We stayed at Crowne Plaza Times Sq. Paid more for 4 nights there than the following 21 nights in Orlando. £600, £150pn but had view of TSq and Empire state building, amazing 4 nights there.

DD and I are off in 2 weeks - we're staying at the Westin Times Square. Will let you know what it's like when we got back.

After much recommendation from friends I tried to book Radio City Apartments, even though there's only two of us this trip, but they were fully booked.

I agonised for ages on which hotel to stay in we wanted somewhere pretty central but 'nice'!!

We also looked at the Marriott Residence Inn, Times Square - we like these when travelling as a family, they offer good accommodation for reasonable prices - suites and junior suites, so check them out.

Good luck - there's so many hotels to choose from!

Annie are you goign to the Spa at the Westin? We are still thinking about where to stay in December at the moment it is either the Westin or the Sofitel.

We stayed at the Plaza for our honeymoon, overlooking Central Park which was fabulous although not cheap!!

We have stayed in some OK hotels (Best western Midtown, Hotel Dorset are the only two names I can recall!), but I would just say that unless you pay top dollar in NY you will be getting just 'average', not great accomodation - a bit like London really!!

Have a fabulous time - we haven't been for a few years now, so don't know if its still there - but if you get chance go to Serendipity's for an ice cream sundae - fantastic!!

Most of the hotels in NY have a maximum occupancy rate of four, so it can be more expensive for families of five since you will most likely need two rooms.

Before we joined the Hilton Club, we frequently stayed at the Hilton on Avenue of the Americas in a one bedroom suite. This has a master bedroom with two queen beds and a separate lounge with a double sofa bed. It is on the concierge club level, so breakfast and all-day snacks are included in the rate, which - for a family of five - can be quite a saving. I'm not sure what the price is now, but we paid around $350/night, which was cheaper than two rooms at most other decent hotels.

If you're just looking for somewhere with value/low prices, then there are no doubt better options, but this is a great hotel to consider. The location is perfect - easy walking distance to Times Square, Central Park and Fifth Avenue. It's a large and quite impersonal hotel, but staying on the club level gives it a much smaller feel and the service is extremely attentive.
