We are going with 4 other adults to Miami for a long weekend in September. None of us have ever been and I have no idea as to which hotels are good. There seem to be so many. We are mostly interested in those right on the beach (which is probably what we will be doing during the day) and some nightlife at night. South Beach or Miami Beach? Any information anyone has would be helpful. Thanks!!!

Check out this hotel...

Its a beautiful hotel, and its a great location. Its right next to Lincoln Road, and Ocean Drive.

Bal Harbour is very nice, but very expensive. The restaurants and shops are mostly high end and pricey. Its nice if thats what you're looking for.

I stayed at the http://www.richmondhotel.com in December and I thought it was a very nice hotel, great pool area, access straight onto the beach and right in the middle of the restaurants and bars along Collins in the South Beach area.

I booked it through http://www.hotwire.com so it was pot luck as to the hotel I got. I've got some really great rates from hotwire on number of hotels and locations so if you're feeling adventurous you could go with them and see what you get. You don't know the actual hotel until after you accept the price, but you can see the area and hotel facilities.

I just checked up the reviews on a couple of sites and it seemed to get slightly mixed reviews. ALl I can say is that from my point of view the staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful, no complaints on the rooms and the location is excellent. Maybe 200 yards walk to where the real "nightlife" is on Ocean drive, but far enough away that the noise doesn't disturb your sleep ( as mine was when I stayed on Ocean drive itself).

I really like South Beach, loads of night life, lots of shops, fun place to walk about and people watch as well as checking out all the Art Deco buildings.

I stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental in downtown Miami. It was several years ago. Expensive but beautiful!!

Samantha Brown did a Great Hotels on the Hotel Biba...its supposed to be fun, quaint, quirky and pretty cheap. They do have a website I think it is www.hotelbiba.com

I recently stayed at the Fountainebleau and I can honestly say I was unimpressed. While the hotel was beautiful the service was horrible and we were at concierge level.

Wow. Thank you guys for all the information. I'm hopefully going to book tonight!!! ;)
