Hotels in miami

Is it better to stay near the port in Miami or near the beach?

Also, when we cruised out of Port Canaveral we stayed at a hotel that also included a discount off of port parking. Is there anything like this in Miami?

Any and all advice for Port of Miami is wanted and welcome. Thanks in advance!!!

I love south beach. Lots to do and great people watching. Taxi to port is about 15 to 20.

curious to see as well what hotels are there that are priced well but aren't dive hotels. Family is booked for end of Jan 2015 to leave out of Miami and we are looking to fly in the day before.

I doubt if south beach hotels would work for parking. But I would guess many of the hotels by the airport would have deals. We have only stayed at the Hotel at South Beach and holiday inn at the port. Liked both but didn't have a car.

We were very pleased with Comfort Suites Miami Airport North. Clean and attractive. Cruise deal included transfers and a bottle of wine, they have free breakfast, free shuttle to/from the airport, and if you join the loyalty program you also get two free drink tickets.
