We will be attending 2 Padres games in the near future. What hotel/location would you recommend for easy access to Petco Park. I know that there is a hotel attached to the park, but it is booked for part of our stay. Would you stay in the downtown area or in Mission Valley?

If you don't want the hassle of trying to find parking or ride the trolley, then I'd stay definitely stay downtown. Downtown has easy access to places like the Gaslamp Quarter, Horton Plaza, Seaport Village, the USS Midway and the Harbor. That would be my first choice.

The SD Marriott Gaslamp Quarter is just as close as the Omni Hotel is to Petco Park. The only difference is that the Marriott doesn't have a connecting bridge to the ballpark like the Omni. The Manchester Hyatt and another Marriott (SD Hotel and Marina) are across the street and down the block from Petco Park. These hotels are next to the Convention Center and Seaport Village and are also within walking distance to Petco Park.

If you have your heart set on staying in Mission Valley, you might want to consider taking the Trolley. Parking prices near the ballpark range from $15-$20, if I remember correctly but there are free parking areas at the Fashion Valley station and the Old Town station, both located in Mission Valley. There is also a Doubletree Hotel in Mission Valley which has a trolley station right next to it so you wouldn't have to drive.

HTH!

What dates are you going? If you are going July 24th-27 be prepared it is going to be crazy around Downtown especially the Convention Center. The Comic-Con is that weekend and its just crazy how many people attend!

If you can't get in the Omni, try the Gaslamp Hilton or the Marriott. I would stay downtown, because traveling after a game isn't fun, but Mission Valley is fine if the hustle and bustle of Downtown is too much.

i know this is late but anyone who reads this in the future...
i recently stayed at the hotel Solomar in Gaslamp. it was i think 1 or 2 blocks from Petco Park. pretty nice hotel and walking distance to many restaurants and bars. not sure on the price. i went for my bachelor party and my friends paid so.... yeah. but i'm assuming not too expensive due to the fact that we're all poor 26 year olds. haha.

I stayed in a condo in the Gaslamp district and it was great. They typically include the parking whereas the hotels charge extra. Try vacationrentals.com to see what's available.
