hotels at Old Orchard Beach, ME

i haven't been to old orchard beach in many years. my DH and i are planning to go this summer. My DH has a disability and can't walk long distances so i would need to find a hotel pretty much right in the middle of everything along the beach, near the pier if possible. anyone know of any good reasonably priced hotels right on the beach?

If you haven't been there in many years, you'll find it much changed. Downtown has changed a lot and there really aren't hotels in "the center" anymore. All of them require a bit of a walk. Almost all the hotels are still on Grand Ave but those are a walk to the pier, rides, etc. A lot of places that were hotels are condos now.

I havent been in years either. But was thinking of going up this summer. Last I went they had put a bar at the end of the pier. Which disappointed DH and I cause we remembered it being an aquarium. It just seemed like there wasnt much to do there anymore. Anything fun these days?

It's not the same. I've spent every summer there since i was born and there is less and less every year. Last summer was really bad because of the economy a TON of places had closed. If you just want to go and sit on the beach, it's fine for that. It's a second home to us so we don't go there and expect a lot of entertainment but it's definitely not the same as when I was a kid.
