Can anyone suggest such a hotel? We will be there for the HS Vex competition, and the whole family is going.

Thanks.

I suppose it depends on whether you want the walk to be longest for the convention center or the parks. There are several hotels right on the Convention Center Way: a Marriott, Hilton, and a couple of others. The Anabella on Katella Ave is right next door to the convention center too. However, the walk from these hotels will probably justify using the Anaheim Resort Transit shuttles to get to the park. You can walk, but it is a long walk.

In the other direction, you could stay at the hotels across the street from the park and have a bit of a walk to the convention center. Those going to the parks will be in good shape to come back to the hotel for mid-afternoon rests or swimming. You could also pick up the shuttle to the convention center.

If you really want to split the difference you're probably looking at the Super 8, or Ramada Inn on Katella. Check it out on Google maps.

I'm going to guess that it is between 20 and 30 minutes walking from the convention center to the parks. Disney's California Adventure is right across the street from the convention center, buy you have to go to the Esplanade between the parks to enter either one. So you're going to find a hotel that is somewhere along that path.

Portofino Inn & Suites is pretty close to both. We love that hotel and will not stay anywhere else when we go to DL.

We just stayed at the Marriott and had a great experience. Basically adjacent to the convention center, and about 10 minute walk to the parks. Here's a full review I did of the hotel if it helps...

One option is to stay at one of the harbor hotels near the Convention Center. Toy Story parking lot is a very short walk to use their free shuttles to Disneyland. Sheraton, Red Lion, Marriot and possibly Hilton come to mind.

Quick claification please. We are staying at the Courtyard Marriott on Harbor. Can we walk across the street to the Toy Story lot and catch the shuttle/tram to Disneyland instead of using ART?

Which is better to do?

Thanks

I stayed at the Ramada on Katella and it was a decent walk to the parks (and I imagine about equal to the ccenter). They were kind there, and even with a cheerleading thing going on (my sister was part of it) we heard ONE peep from them, but nothing else the whole night.

Also, the walk from Anabella isn't bad. You just don't go to the Harbor entrance. Go to the nearest crosswalk, and walk towards Paradise Pier. Once you get to the Grand Californian, go in, and use their entrance to the esplanade (once in the lobby turn left down a hall, at the end of the hall go right out the sliding glass automatic doors, follow the outdoors path to DTD, turn right, get to bag check).

The walk to the Grand is incredibly pleasant, with "birds of paradise" flowers and palms, and you're walking on half of a huge "hidden" Mickey (check out the satellite view of the street).

And Anabella is good, too.

Yes. But it can be a little farther than you think.

Us too. We stayed in the Kids Suite in Sept. 2009 and loved it. Walk was about 10-15 minutes and my oldest was almost 8 at the time and never complained. We actually booked the kids suite for this December at a great rate. Looking forward to staying there again.

My son and I will probably be there too with his high school if the principal approves the trip. They just qualified this past Saturday.

I've been told that we are staying at the Marriott if we go but I don't know which one.

I've also been told that the concentration for our group will be the Vex Competition and they will only have 1 full day at Disneyland before the competitions begin.

Makes me wonder what will be going on at night at the competitions. There had better be something to keep the teens active otherwise we may have a problem since they will only be asking parents for payment of the 1 day ticket and teens need to be kept busy.

I guess it will be a wait and see until we have the first meeting if it's even approved.

Here's a pic showing the Toy Story Lot and Disney bus location. Above the Marriot is the Hilton, to the right of that is the Sheraton. Across Harbor from the Sheraton is the Red Lion. The blue line indicates the route the Disney buses take to Disneyland gates.

Looks like ART is right across the street from Courtyard. With ALL your experience which would you do. ART or Toy Story lot?

By the way, where in So Col are you. I am also originally from So Cal and now So Col.

You know, it is different strokes for different folks. I personally would never use ART. It sounds like they do a decent job overall, but when they don't it can really mess up your Disney day. Like when you want to get on the bus but there is a large group in front of you and it fills up. So you have to wait until the next one. I would use the TS Lot if given the choice, but then I would not stay that far away in the first place. :cool2:

Lived in SoCal from birth until after college - now we live in the Colorado Springs area. :cheer2:

3 free nights at the Courtyard makes it pretty hard to pass up! I prefer to stay closer too but......

Thanks for your input.

Maybe. But if it was me I would use the free nights for another trip and get some place closer. Because I have seen how it can have a huge effect on the quality of the trip.

But to be fair, it does depend a bit on what time of year you go. An offseason weekday with short park hours would make the nearby hotel less important than high season with longer hours.

:)
