Does anyone know what the height restrictions are for the water slides in the hotels?

DO you have to pass a swim test to ride?

Are they monitored by lifeguards/cm?

Can you ride with a life jacket or water wings?

We just stayed at Caribbean Beach. there are 2 different slides at the main pool. The slides were open from 10am to 8pm, and that's when there were about 3 or 4 life guards on duty. Both slides dumped into about 4 ft. water. I saw many different kinds of safety swimwear, and they even have bins of life vests you can borrow. Noone was "tested" for their swimming ability, but there were tons of parents waiting at the bottom of the slides to catch their kids.

I don't know of any height restrictions aside from who is allowed in the "kiddie" section.

HTH!

The slide exits are very closely monitered by lifeguards. I saw two kids get rescued a month or so ago when they didn't quite get full control of swimming after going down the slide. They also seem to rotate the guards from station to station often to keep them alert. I have seen what appears to be two year olds going down the slides with a lifejacket on. Have fun!

Are they monitored by lifeguards/cm? Lifeguards are at the top of the big slides spacing the kids apart as they send them down, so yes. And I think one is at the bottom of each, as well, on the side.

Not exactly. Poly, CR, CB, and WL (the ones I've ridden myself) have a timer light at the top, that turns green to maintain the spacing. The slides are monitored by the normal lifeguard in the chair at the side of the pool.

The slides usually have plenty of parent's around, so in reality it's the safest part of the pool. Children of all sizes, from infant through adults, are free to ride, as long as you can understand the rules. For instance, the lifeguard will warn you a couple of times if you slide too close to someone else.

My children have used the slides since they were out of diapers. Although they could not swim, they used water wings and always had one parent at the top, and the other as catcher at the bottom.

Ohhh you are right! I forgot about that part :thumbsup2. I think the new AKV pool has this as well.

Depending on the lifeguard or pool you may not be able to be right where the slide dumps out to catch your child. When we stayed at the Beach Club they were pretty adamant that your child be able to swim a bit, and would not allow an adult to wait right at the bottom of the slide. Your child had to be able to swim over to you.

Storm along bay at BC resort has a lifeguard at the top of the slide and they do allow kids in life jackets down.BUT they have to be able to swim to the side once they hit the splash down pool .It is an elaborate slide that starts at the top of the mast of a pirate ship and is partially enclosed as it shoots you down and over the walkway to the pool. They do not allow double riders at all.

The difference between the rules at WDW and DLR is astonishing. At DLR you cannot wear a flotation device of ANY kind, and you cannot have someone waiting for you at the bottom. So you have to be a strong enough swimmer to come up and get to the edge all on your own.

By the time we get to WDW, DS will be that good of a swimmer (he's starting his third session of classes at the YMCA, and it's 12 months until our trip), so it won't matter, but it still strikes me, the difference, I'm sure, between FL and CA legalities that cause the rules to be so different.
