I was wondering if people really take home the hotel towels? I saw something on TV that is one of the reasons prices are going up. Just wonder if people really do take them home or maybe the hotels are just looking for a reason to raise the prices.

Thanks:flower3:

We have never taken home a towel or even thought about it thats disgusting b/c you dont know where the towels been.

I don't take towels home because they're not mine. While staying in a room, I am renting them, not purchasing them.

I know I feel the same way I guess will see how this turns out. It just maybe a scam to raise prices like I first thought.

I think the OP was meaning extra towels you have in your room at end of stay or the towels you have used while staying at the resort.

I happen to buy towels every now an them that I like better than hotel towels tho I got to admit of all the hotels we stay at the disney hotel towels are better than most but still not what I want at home for 1 thing I have no use for white towels.

Where did you hear that hotel prices are going up because people are taking towels home? If you think that through, it doesn't really make much sense. Towels are probably one of the lowest-cost items that a hotel has to purchase. If every guest took a towel home, it wouldn't make a dent in the bottom line of most hotel chains.

Especially the big guns like Hilton, Marriott or Disney. Disney has tens of thousands of rooms on WDW property, they must buy towels in such quantity that they probably pay about 10 cents apiece for them.

That said, I can't imagine anyone taking WDW resort towels home. I have towels that I bought at Wal-Mart that are MUCH nicer than the WDW towels. :rotfl:

Im really not sure where it was I heard it I just caught it really out of the corner of my eye when I was in line at the store. So I really dont know the whole story it was more of a general comment maybe.
But I do have to say what you are saying really does make a lot of sense.

the only time we brought home a towel it was a mistake DS swim suit was wrapped in it. I guess he put it in the dirty clothes tote. But we have never set out to take any towels.

I never take home towels and would never think about its not mine so I dont thinkkk you should do it

I don't think I've ever used a hotel towel anywhere that's nicer than what I have at home.

And furthermore... eww.

I think you may have been mistaken with what you saw or heard. I can't imagine there being a news report saying that Disney (or any hotel chain) was raising prices since people were stealing the towels. This would hardly be a new phenomenon anyway and I am sure theft of hotel property has long been priced into Disney's rates.

DH brought home a hand towel. He had something wrapped in it - I can't remember what. Anyway, we can always give it back next month if it will keep prices down!:rotfl2:

At SOG, there was a little sign in the bathroom listing the prices of the various towels, washcloths, coffee maker, remote control, clock radio, pillows, bed linens, keyboard, and ice bucket. It was to inform guests about how they like to keep their rates affordable, so if they find items missing upon check out, they'll bill the credit card on file or mail an invoice for the costs. I think a large bath towel ran about $30.00. I don't think guests stealing things is the main reason for rising room rates. Other factors like insurance rates, maintenance costs, staff costs, and market forces in a given area really determine room rates.

I think more than likely you are all right it is not a reason to raise rates, but maybe they are just trying to make an easy explaintion for something more complex or they just want people to stop taking the towels.

I heard this also years ago at another resort. During summers, while on breaks from my teaching job, I worked there and we were told to tell guests that towels etc missing at the end of the stay would be charged to their account. We were instructed to tell them this is to prevent costs from escalating from people stealing towels. Unless a high volume of towels are taken, which isn't likely, it should not cause an increase in rates though. They mainly said this to keep people from taking them.

Personally, I'd never steal a towel from a hotel. I prefer the ones I have at home mostly, but it's stealing because it's not yours. I don't want to set that type of example for my children that they think it's ok to steal.

My DS though, did stick a towel in a bag with his bathing suit when picking them up off floor of pool changing room. It got thrown in the car when we left without me knowing it. Because we stayed there frequently, I called and told the girl that what happened and that we'd bring it back next time we came.

I have never even considered it. If it is done intentionally, it is no different than stealing.

Plain old hotel towel? No way! Now, if it were in the shape of, oh let's say an animal . . . But those are VERY rare, indeed! :rotfl2:

We did take a hotel towel once. It was a mistake. The kids had thrown it in the bag with their wet swimsuits. It was the last day of our trip and I found it when we got home.

I called the hotel to let them know and even offered to send it back to them. They said no problem and they had already charged us for it, so to just keep it. When I got my statement a couple of weeks later, I found out we had been charged $15 for that towel!!!! I could have bought the same thing at Wal Mart for no more than $5.

So, if they charge you for taking them, why would that justify a price increase?
