Oh no wouldn't ake them home, don't know how many thousand other people have used them before - ick!! (try not to think about that when using them there!);)

You guys are all really honest. My ex mother in law wouldn't leave a single thing in the bathroom when she left.. she took every soap, shampoo lotion etc... and every clean towel!

Glad to be out of that family!

man i said yes, i thought it said towel animals, OOPS :rolleyes1

I Did that too! I have taken home the two little towel animals left on our bed. One was of a bunny and one was a mice. They looked like they were made of a wash cloth. I would never take home a regular towel. That's just silly. Why would anyone want them? They aren't that comfy, who knows who has used them, and it is just wrong. Of course I am probably going to be busted on the two animal towels I took. YES I CONFESS! You can flame me now!

You dont have to worry about the towel animals I asked at POP when we stayed there and the housekeeper said we could have it she made it for us. I had to ask my little sister fell in love with it, it was a bunny and she missed her bunny at home.

From people who have worked in the industry, towel theft is rampant. I find I can buy nicer towels than they supply. I guess some see it as owed to them for the money they spent on the hotel.

I have stayed at many hotels that have a sign up about towels. The best on I have ever seen was saying how lonely the towel would be when it's family is left at the hotel.

We got a towel animal that I wanted to take home. So I went to the front desk and asked to buy the animal. I was told it was left in my room for me and I was allowed to take it home for free. My animal was small and would stay together when moved. I have seen some that are just towels in circular shapes to represent Mickey's head, those I would not take.

I have stayed at places where they have little signs that tell you all items are inventoried. At one place I stayed recently on the way home from California, it even had the prices of each item, I think a washcloth was something like $5 so that would make you think twice.

I do have to say I have never taken one intentionally but somehow I ended up with a Hampton Inn (had an embossed logo on it) hand towel. We stayed at one in San Diego and somehow it got mixed up in our dirty laundry suitcase. When I took it out of the dryer I was wondering what the heck this white towel was. I'll have to see if my Visa gets charged for our inadvertant act of crime!

I have to admit that I have stolen hotel towels with their logo or name on them (but never taken plain towels)

My family owns several hotels in a resort area. One of our properties, an 86 room branded national chain which has specific guidelines set regarding the towels provided, goes through over 50 dozen bath towels, 50 dozen handtowels, and 100 dozen washclothes each and every year. Plus another 50 dozen basic pool towels. Some due to normal wear & tear, some due to stains of we don't know what, and yes: a significant number due to theft. And I can attest, that even in these quantities they are well more than 10 cents apiece. Even the least expensive, lowest quality pool towel (with the colored stripe down the center) is currently pricing at about about $1.25 each in bulk quantity. And the industry has been advised that prices of cotton are expected to rise significantly in 2011. So while it is not a large portion of the cost of the room, all those supplies add up and make up their own line item on the budget.

For the inadvertent missing item that got mixed in with the laundry don't worry, but when the guests call and request an entire replacement set of towels because they took a 2nd shower that day, and then they all mysteriously disappear along with the nice bathmat - yes there is a charge.

The running joke is that the kids must be eating them....

Why would anyone take a towel from WDW? they're not that great :confused3

Have to admit to walking off with one of Disney's bath towels. Not intentional though ... it got mixed up with dirty clothes and wet swimsuits.

Besides, after going to Disney for over 20 years and NEVER ONCE receiving a pin or a code and only being offered a Bounce Back ONCE ... I'm considering it a free gift for being a loyal customer! pirate:

*** In the following statement I am just stating MY PERSONAL OPINIONS --- I am not advocating stealing
I am just saying! So PLEASE don't byte my head off! ***

As far as being charged for "missing items" ... boy, I would think that would be kind of tough to prove for towels. The coffee maker, ice bucket, tables, lamps, chairs :rotfl: ... I could see stuff like that being easy to figure out but towels are REALLY hard. (Unless you're taking every towel in the joint!)

Let's say there was a towel missing from my room ... what's to say I didn't bring it to the pool and throw it in a bin ... how many times have any of us walked along the beach areas of hotels and seen one laying on a chair or in the sand? Disney would need proof before they accuse somebody of something like that ... besides, is it really worth it to lose an OVER $400 per night Poly patron over a $30 Towel charge? (For a towel that they bought in bulk and probably only paid a buck for)

Let's face it people ... Disney doesn't lose money ... on anything! Even right after 9/11 their attendance may have been down and they might not have made as much PROFIT as the year before but they weren't drowning in red ink.

Disney has mastered the art of making money! Don't believe me? They are charging you different room rates based on the day of the week! I could understand for concierge ... I could understand for a holiday ... I could even understand between 4 or 5 different views ... but they are actually charging you MORE to stay a night on Fridays and Saturdays! What IS THAT!?!

*** Again, I was just voicing an OPINION! I am not yelling at anyone here or yelling in general; I am merely stating the fact that Disney has become Masters of Monetary Manipulation. I may not like some of the stuff that happens but I keep going back. This little rant was JUST MY OPINION! PLEASE don't string me up for it! ***

I was wondering if people really take home the hotel towels? I saw something on TV that is one of the reasons prices are going up. Just wonder if people really do take them home or maybe the hotels are just looking for a reason to raise the prices.

Thanks:flower3:

Hahaha .. Nice tip for those who are real sneaky.. And how would they cope up with it. I mean the hotel dean!!
That is real bad. Ethics!!

As a former upscale hotel manager, let me assure you that towel theft is a real issue.

Actually everything that can not be nailed down tends to wander off. Some people take all of the light bulbs out of the room when they leave. People swap there dirty pillows from home for the room pillows. Batteries vanish from remote controllers.

As a rule, hotels expect inventory shrinkage and budget for it. In the course of a year I would expect to loose 10% or more of room towels to theft.

Some fast hotel math: 25,000 rooms at WDW, 8 towels per room, 200,000 towels deployed every day. Hotels keep 250% inventory of towels on hand so thats 500,000 towels on hand. Expected loss: 50,000 per year to theft. Figure a hotel grade towel average costs about $9. Bath and pool towels cost much more.

That comes out to $450,000 per year for towel theft at WDW

Now, lets add in some pool towels.... Easily costs WDW $600,000 or more for towel theft each year.

Okay DVCHammer ... THAT is ridiculous! :scared1:

People taking the light bulbs out of the lamps? Come on! I'm not saying that because I don't believe you ... I'm saying that because who the hell would do something like that? :confused3

Sometimes people worry me!

I had a friend who, at least for some years, fully intended to furnish an apartment with stolen items. :confused3 Mostly from restaurants and hotels, but she stole from her friends, too -- except regarding friends she had very strict rules and only stole particular things, so as long as you knew what was on her list and kept it out of her sight, she wouldn't steal from you.

She stole for the thrill of it. MIL stole because she was convinced big corporations are made of money; hubby never did but never saw anything particularly wrong with it, either, until I sat him down and showed him the math. I resent towel theft because that's the main reason hotels always have white towels and tend to have such small bath towels -- people are slightly less likely to steal those. :upsidedow

Ok, I have to chime in here. I use to think this was ridiculous as well. Until we moved into our first house.

Our former tenants (it was rented when we purchased it, and we let them stay for a couple of years) took the lightbulbs and EVEN the lightswitch & outlet covers! :lmao:
