I apologize if there is already a thread on this subject, but I am new to Disboards and couldn't find it. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel close to the port in San Juan? We are flying in one day early just to make sure we board the ship on time. Thanks!

We happened upon Embassy Suites near the airport since it's one of the few hotels in San Juan that allows 5ppl in one room. We stayed one night before and after our January 2016 cruise and just stayed for 1 night last week after a trip to St John. It's so convenient to the airport, has a great pool, evening manager's reception, free breakfast, and beach chairs included on Isla Verde beach, which is 2-3 blocks away.

My dh and I also stayed at El Convento one night as part of a couples trip to PR. It's a beautiful hotel in the heart of Old San Juan with a roof top pool and evening wine/cheese reception - great if you'd like to see the forts & other sights of Old San Juan.

We stayed at an amazing little Hotel called The Olive Boutique Hotel in April.
OMG.... it was amazing, its a tiny hotel very eclectic. Small beautiful place. It has won awards for being one of the best small luxury hotels in the world.
The personal service is awesome. Its great for a romantic couples getaway.
We were upgraded to one of their suites, that had a private patio with couches, chairs and even a little pool/tub.
The morning of the cruise we went to the rooftop bar and they brought us out coffee(we ordered it the night before) to enjoy while we looking at The Magic off in the distance waiting with anticipation to board.

I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort which was wonderful and right on the beach. I was able to book a nice rate and the resort and staff was wonderful and the drive to the port took less than 30 minutes with traffic. However, the next time I visit San Juan I want to stay at the El Convento Hotel which is a beautiful hotel right in the heart of Old San Juan and really close to the port. Although I did like the ocean views from the Courtyard I found myself more attracted to the sites of Old San Juan and the charm surrounding the El Convento Hotel.

We stayed at the Caribe Hilton after our repositioning cruise last year for 2 nights, then
we took a cab to the Embassy Suites for our last night. Both hotels were nice.

Remember that the port in question is the panamerican one, which isn't right in old San Juan.

We stayed at Caribe Hilton. It was decent and had nice grounds.

We almost stayed at embassy suites but on paper it seemed too far away from everything. After being there, though, nothing is really that far away. It's just a cab ride (or Uber, though you have to leave hotel grounds generally to meet them) away from everything.

For future trips, even pre/post-cruise trips, though, were going with Hotel el Convento. Gorgeous from the outside and right in the heart of old San Juan, which is where we spent most of our time anyway.

We have stayed at the caribe Hilton and the condado plaza. Both are very close to the port. Can fare is about $15-$18

Both have great views The condado us in walking distance to a few local restaurants. If you stay at the caribe you'll probably take a taxi or eat at the hotel

We would stay again at either place

There are two fairly inexpensive and very highly rated Hyatt hotels very close to the port: Hyatt House San Juan and Hyatt Place San Juan / City Center.

We're spending 3 nights at the La Concha Renaissance on Condado Beach.

Id recommend: La concha (has a Beach), Caribe Hilton (has a beach), El convento (in old San Juan), Ritz Carlton San Juan (in old San Juan), the Hyatt House (short cab ride to old San Juan), and the Sheraton Old San Juan. The Hyatt house and Sheraton are the best priced ones, especially for AAA members.

I recommend the Sheraton Old San Juan. It's in the middle of Old San Juan which is great for exploring, restaurants, and last minute shopping.

One vote here for El Convento. We stayed there a year or two back and the location in the centre of Old San Juan is great. The hotel has tremendous character but (be warned) it is a genuinely old building and the rooms might seem a little on the small side for those used to US motels! The happy hour free wine and cheese is excellent and there is a view of the cathedral façade from the balcony. It proved to be a grandstand view for the Eastertide celebration which included a Passion play on the steps of the cathedral. Also, the tapas restaurant in the hotel was one of the best (when we were there). It can be more like travel than tourism when it comes to a taxi ride through the narrow streets to the Pan American port!

Wondering what the taxi fare is from the airport to the Hyatt Place San Juan, and from there to the pier?

Taxifarefinder.com estimates a little over $20 from the airport and about $5.75 to the port.

Looks like we are in the same cruise. Sailing Jan 28th. We are also staying at the Hyatt Place.

We are a group of 8 staying at Hyatt House - Jan 28th as well! Party by the pool? lol! We've also booked The Coral Princess for 1 night post cruise.

Anyone stayed at the Marriott?

Which one?

We went on vacation to PR last year and stayed at the Marriott Stellaris in Condado beach area. We LOVED it! We have kids (not sure if you do), and they loved the water slides, the swim up pool bar for milk shakes, the huge checkers, and the beach. We had a great time there. Close to a lot. About 15 minutes to the port.
