DH and I will be stopping in Savannah for one night in May on our way home from a wedding. Neither of us has been there before and are looking for suggestions for a reasonably priced, well-located hotel. We want to be in the historic district as we plan to walk once we are situated. I'm having a hard time figuring out which hotels are truly in the center of things, and which are on the fringes of the district.

Anyone have any suggestions? We are not B&B fans, but are open to ideas.

I couple of years ago, I stayed with a group at the Inn at Ellis Square and we liked it. It is more at the edge of the historic district, but still very walkable. It is right between River Street and another shopping/restaurant area but I can't remember what that area was called. part of the hotel his historic and part is new. Not much to see from the hotel

Thanks! I did look at that one and was wondering about the location. Anyone know anything about Springhill Suites - it's fairly new?

We stayed at the Hilton DeSoto Hotel when we were attending a wedding once. We really liked the location and it was very easy to walk around the historic district.

This is probably one of the best locations as it is in the middle of the downtown historic district. There is also a Bohemian Hotel on River St. which is very nice and a Hampton Inn on Bay St. I would also recommend the Courtyard on Liberty St. (also well located in the historic district).

I live close by and am familiar with all of these hotels.

Good luck! I love to walk the historic district! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much Danibelle! Makes me feel better to hear from a local :) I will check into the ones you suggested!

I stayed at the Hilton mentioned previously and it was very nice. Right next to a trolley stop for taking a trolley tour. You can buy a pass for the tour at the hotel concierge desk. The adjacent park square is very nice. I got up early and took my coffee out there to enjoy it while it was quiet and deserted.

There are tons of hotels in the historic district: Marriott, Hyatt, DoubleTree, Hilton, Holiday Inn. Avoid the Comfort Suites on Bay St. it's right across the street from a "not so nice" public housing project.

I've lived here my whole life, feel free to ask questions :)

We met some friends in Savannah last year about this time for a weekend getaway. We were travelling with 2 children and on a last minute trip. I was having a difficult time finding any rooms at the swankier hotels with 2 queen beds so we settled on the Holiday Inn Express and I could not be happier with the choice. It was very centrally located within the historic district, the rooms were nice and clean, the staff was fantastic. The quality of the hotel and the service was far above and beyond what I expected for the price. I thought when I booked it at that I was "settling" but if going back again, it would be my 1st choice.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express across from the ?Cotton Exchange. It was great, and had free breakfast. We walked to everything.
