Hotel Royal Plaza Closed thru Feb 2005?

I just read in the All Ears newsletter that the Hotel Royal Plaza is temporarily closed and no reservations will be accepted through the end of Feb. 2005.. It didn't really say why, but I'm wondering if anyone knows. I assume maybe they are remodeling? Or did they sustain hurricane damage?

I was just kinda curious since I almost booked rooms there for the first night of our December trip and when I called for rates they never mentioned they might not even be open then!

My son & two of his mates went out to Orlando last Thursday (9th) & were booked in the Royal Plaza, when they arrived the hotel was closed & were upgraded to the Hilton. They didn't have a problem with that, but it would have been nice to know in advance. Maybe IT'S A SECRET.

It sustained water damage from the hurricane(s).

I stayed here last November and even without the damage the hotel needed remodeled. We were real disappointed with it. Maybe the renovation will make it nicer now.

We stayed there between Charlie and Frances. The hotel already seemed to have serious damage from Charlie and I think Frances must have really also hit it hard.

We were there last spring (2003). We were dissatisfied and moved to the CR. We were shorted on towels every day. Standard reply was sorry. we're running low. Not good with two kids.
